Dunno about the mask part?

Surgical masks won't stop the corona.

Even the NA 95 has to be fitted properly and you can't wear for long stretches.

EDIT: Surgeon General Weighs In On Masks.

I’m in a Ritz Carlton in Mexico right now.

I could stand another two or three weeks of this as long as the staples I need hold out.

I have Spain booked in May. If we cancel it’s Mexico for a couple of weeks.

If you are older, I don't blame you at all. To be argumentative and play Devil's Advocate, the "big stuff" in Italy is some of the most overated parts of my vacations there. I love Italy for the day to day everyday life aspect of just being in country. The scenery almost everywhere is like a movie, the food just fantastic, and so much more. I guess what I'm trying to say is that yes if you are old and just want to see the big tourist sites its a bad time to travel, but if you are flexible and just want to go for some culture, food, scenery, etc. then now can be a great time to go.

But you told me 3 days ago I shouldn’t even be thinking about the coronavirus!

We're booked for London and Paris March 13-20. Will evaluate and make the call a few days prior. Our concern is not that we'd catch the virus but that we could be stranded overseas or be placed under quarantine arriving back. Crazy times.

Going to Amsterdam, Brussels, and Cologne started March 14th. I'm not canceling unless United and the trains allow me to cancel freely.

I leave same day for London/Paris. Globus Tour group. Unless they cancel the tour, I’m still going.

I'm sticking with my Europe trip in a few weeks unless the USA starts quarantining people returning from abroad.

The Louvre was closed today. Not sure when they will reopen.

For me, there is literally no sense in going to Paris if I can’t go to The Louvre. I could spend all 5 days of my trip in The Louvre and be happy. Oh...and number two on my Paris “must see” list almost burnt down last summer, so that’s out.

Not yet, but watching the situation in Europe. We have a Viking River Cruise that departs from Amsterdam 4/19, ending up in Basel. We could have cancelled by 2/29, but lost half of the $7k cost, so frick that. Have trip insurance, but we'd have to have a cancellation to probably cover that.

Thinking is if it gets that dire, they'll have to cancel like their Asian cruises. As a repeat customer, you'd assume there'd be incentives to rebook. Viking is all about customer service and image so I can't imagine they wouldn't ultimately do something. Why take that risk and potential liability of bad PR and lawsuits potentially?

If I wasn't out any money at all, I'd probably cancel, but we're just waiting for now. Wash your hands. Avoid sick people. Take extra Vitamin C and PRAY is the plan. Not seeing the effectiveness overall of masks at this point, but may buy a N95 set just in case despite experts saying it'd probably do no good anyway.

They did recently send this:

07FEB2020
Dear Viking Guest, Thank you for choosing Viking for your upcoming voyage. As you may be aware, an outbreak of coronavirus, that causes respiratory illness, was detected in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. We are monitoring the situation closely and are heeding travel guidelines from the U.S. Department of State, the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

Please know the safety and security of our guests and crew is always our top priority. While your journey may not be in the general vicinity of the outbreak, as a precautionary measure, we have implemented enhanced health screenings (via a health care questionnaire) for all guests boarding our vessels within the next 90 days. Additionally, any guests who have traveled from or through mainland China within 14 days of the beginning of their trip with us, will not be permitted to embark the ship.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your upcoming sailing, or have recently visited China within 14 days of your itinerary, please contact Reservations at 1-855-300-3970, Monday through Friday, 4:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday to Sunday, 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM, PT.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,
Viking

We’re supposed to leave Saturday for Disney. And we have someone in our party with Leukemia and weak immune system. Looks like we may postpone trip. This sucks...

Really bruh? All of Florida because of two cases in Miami? Goodness you people are loons over this. Take the proper precautions and move on with your life. Pretty much the only people dying are elderly or have compromised immune systems.

duggie: In all seriousness, that sucks and I know how you must feel. But it's a huge state and there's no indication of trends in hot spots. Those cases were in the Tampa Bay area which is about 2 hours from Disney.

One could argue it's all around us even if we stay at home. You have to have groceries? They deliver, who are they? What'd they touch. I don't see how you could insulate yourself from it all anywhere. Secondly, many, many more die from the common flu. Hell, I grew up in that area and the list is lengthy on things that could "get you". Zika from mosquitoes. Moccasins. Alligators. Pythons. 85 year old drivers on the wrong side of the road are probably more dangerous than anything!

All you can do is live your life and take prudent precautions. Wash your hands, stay away from obvious sick people, sanitize your airplane trays and pray.

BTW: FWIW, I had a friend with Leukemia. In the hospital at Shands for weeks. Didn't look good. That was probably 20 years ago and he's doing great. Pray and keep the faith. Remissions and recovers can happen.

Tongue in cheek post on Florida bruh.

Don't disagree with this and that's how we're pursuing travel. But people are afraid and that's real. There can be tipping points in destinations, like Italy, where they're now restricting non-essential travel. Delta and American aren't flying into Milan. Viking has cancelled all Asian cruises for now.

But life goes on and fully agree live your life. I just DM'd a guy that we met on a cruise last year. They're still scheduled at the end of March but:

"The crew will be tested on corona once we join the ship and they will send us update on situation before we embark".

Pays to stay on top of the trends and make the call if you have to.

Thanks, Nole.

I actually 100% agree with you, but the rest of the family is worried about getting stuck there if a person is linked to have gone to Disney.

We’re awaiting response from MD Anderson on what they think about our family member going. I certainly hope the rest of our party trusts those doctors advice more so than the Internet. We’ll see!

Keeping a careful eye on the situation in East Europe and Germany. We have a Danube River cruise and stays in several cities booked for July. We don't have to make any decisions for a couple of months.
