Do you have a Costco membership?

I've used it the last three or four times I booked.

It's been 1/3 to 1/4 the price of anything else I could've booked.

I signed up for a free USAA membership.

Pretty good rates if you book through them.

That sounds too good to be true. Is it?

You get discounts with membership or book through Costco. First time I've heard of this.

It is not. I always book rental cars with Costco now. Always has the cheapest rates.

You have to have a membership. You go on the Costco website under their travel section and log in with your membership # and book there.

Nope. We went from loyal Avis customers to using Avis only if it's the cheapest option at Costco. The savings is significant.

So a car that is normally $30/day at Avis would be 7-10$/day if you're a Costco member?

My past two Costco rentals:

Denver - 6 Days - Standard SUV - $294
New Orleans (drove to Chicago and back, didn't want to pile miles on our cars) - 11 days - Intermediate SUV - $459

Cheapest for Denver was around $700 (holiday weekend), New Orleans was around $850, IIRC.

If you're going to rent a car once a year, a Costco membership is probably worth it

Just to give an example.

I booked a full size car through Budget for being a USAA member at LAX this Thursday-Monday. $160

I need to look into a Costco membership. We have Sams and they have ok prices for cars.

Are you a member of any professional associations? One that I am a member of has a program through Hertz that is really, really cheap.
