Hope you got some travel insurance.

Yep that was a must purchase with that deal.

Cancel the trip and go elsewhere... Sandals and Jamaica are trashy. Plus that's the peak or hurricane season.

Thanks for your opinion! But I'm sticking with the trip. It's where the SO wants to go and I don't really care as long as there is a beach and booze, so I'll win with both. Also, it would be the peak of hurricane season anywhere in the caribbean and gulf coast. From everything I've researched Jamaica doesn't get hit as hard or as often as the other islands. I've also purchased trip insurance just incase. So, since I am still going, can someone please help me on what to do and what to avoid while we are there. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Actually if you go south out of the hurricane belt, you could still hit the Carribbean without an issue (save for the connection likely in Miami). For example, Curacao Ive been too and liked, Aruba, or Bonaire, Barbados even too... All outside the danger zone.

Who says you have to go on your honeymoon right after you get married? We postponed ours because we got married in October and where we wanted to go was still gonna be in it's rainy season. So we went later. Still felt like a honeymoon.
Friends of ours went last year on their honeymoon to a Sandals in Jamaica.....they weren't too impressed tbh and said they would not return. Said too many people hassling you on the beach trying to sell you stuff. Didn't feel safe at all to leave the resort unless on a guided tour. Said the resort was nice though.
Eta: Watch out for Zika, I'm assuming you guys aren't trying to have kids anytime soon. Jamaica is now on the list of places for pregnant women to avoid because of Zika.

Don't be an a-hole. The guy is excited about the trip, don't shite on it. That's OT talk.
OP, if you like golf, see how far you are from the White Witch.

I looked into that but flights are more expensive than I'm willing to spend.

A drive around the island is eye opening. Jamaica is truly a third world nation. Bob Marley's tomb was a weird experience. There was a shaman type dude literally pushing joints through the fence for us. Crazy. We didn't do the waterfalls, but heard that was cool and a must see.

The reason we are doing it right after the wedding is because that's the only time that works with our schedules for work. And it's also what she wants. Thanks for your opinion but that does nothing in telling what excursions to try out or what we should avoid doing.

I got married on October 1st and went to Jamaica the next day for my honeymoon. I think it might have rained for an hour one evening during the week we were there. Other than that, nothing but sunshine. Forget the naysayers.
I would recommend Dunns River Falls for an excursion. Touristy big still well worth it.

Yeah I've heard about that. Everybody has said it was really cool and I think we are going to check it out. Thanks for the input!

Dunn's River Falls is a good excursion. Look into zip lines, they were excellent near Ocho. Float the White River rafting, real laid back.
Stop at Scotchies Jerk Hut between the airport and Ocho and eat some killer Jerk Pork/Chicken!! The scotch bonnet sauce is real hot but so good!!
MoBay is OK for a day visit, Go to Bourbon Beach and party with Krazy Kenny!! Shopping is kinda pedestrian but we don't go to islands to shop.
Enjoy Jamaica, been there 12 times but never Sandals. Our favorite is Iberostar Rose Hall Suites/Grand!!! Kick back and enjoy your resort and the all inclusive!!!

Yeah, this shite has to stop on the travel board. Either help the OP with their trip or ignore the thread. If someone comes in asks for opinions on a location, okay give your thoughts but if someone is looking for guidance on a trip they've already planned stop being a douche.

Negril resorts are the best but you should look into renting a house. Cheap and you can hire a cook for the same price as an all inclusive stay. Can't believe no one mentioned Rick's Cafe for cliff diving and the sunset
This^^
Jamaica is cool if you just want to relax on the beach. The locals Won't harm a tourist besides trying to sell you everything, so don't be afraid to leave the resorts. They know tourism is their cash cow and the service around the resorts reflects it. The driving around the island is the most dangerous thing there. They don't break just honk
Tip your bartender healthy on day one and relax

I don't know what city that resort is in but we went to sandals whitehouse in Jamaica last and really liked it. You will have fun. Make sure to make restaurant reservations at the nice restaurants when you get there

The Sandals RC is in MoBay. A trip to Ocho Rios to Dunn's River will be about 2.5 hours each way. Understand that if you decide to take the excursion. The drive will open your eyes to what poverty actually is. The Falls are fun to walk across, the only downside was the gauntlet of vendors selling things you had to walk thru to get of and from the Falls.
Go out in MoBay during the day and you shouldn't have any issues. Just be careful where you go. I'd hang out downtown. Heck, there are neighborhoods in NOLA/BR that are dangerous. There's a Margaritavillle there, cool overlook and a slide into the bay. The food was marginal and over-priced. I don't recommend this unless that's your thing.
Rick's Cafe is in Negril. This is a 2 hour ride from MoBay (or a 15 minute flight) . I have not been to Rick's but went to the Push Cart to,see the sunset. It will eat up a day going to Negril but they have best beaches in Jamaica. The beaches in MoBay and Ocho are OK.
Going out at night is usually not necessary as the All Inclusives have shows and bars and can keep you busy throughout your vacation. If you feel you must go out at night I'd get someone from the resort to accompany you and they will keep, you safe. We stayed at Boscobel Beach and there was a local reggae bar just up the road you could hear at night. Some of our group hooked up with one of the guys from the sports/entertainment team and went there at night and had a blast w/o incident.
Watch your "stuff" while you are out off resort, it is a poor country and if you leave something, it will, disappear. Tip your bartenders and wait staff and they will make your trip better. Make friends with the people on and off property. We've made lots of friends there and that is why we go back so often.
If this is your first all inclusive, watch the drinking. It is "free" and unlimited and is easy to overdo. They will not run out of alcohol so you don't have to try to drink them dry and hammer yourself. We just got back from my daughters wedding in Cabo and had multiple people in our group (youngin's on first resort trip) down for the count by early afternoon.
Jamaica is beautiful, the people are great. Relax and roll with it and you will have a blast. Don't get in a hurry cuz they don't hurry.
