Alaskan Cruise - recommendations - fresh Salmon?

I will be going on a Celebrity cruise to Alaska leaving on June 24th. We will be stopping in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway while in Alaska. I already have plans for Juneau that take up almost the whole day but we have nothing planned in Ketchikan and only one small thing planned for Skagway. We really want to eat some fresh Alaskan salmon while there but have had little luck while researching. A lot of the places seem to specialize in King Crab. Has anyone been to these ports and eaten at any restaurant serving excellent salmon? Do you have any "must dos" that I should know about?
In Juneau we are doing an excursion into the Tracy Arm (we actually get off the cruise ship in Tracy Arm and will meet them back in Juneau) and a whale watching trip later that evening.
In Skagway we are going to ride the White Pass train which is about 3 hours or so. If we take the 8:15 train we should have plenty of time to grab a bite to eat if there is a good place or do something else.
No plans at all in Ketchikan. Probably will just walk around and shop if weather cooperates.

I'm doing the same cruise June 10th. I don't have answers for you about Salmon, but will chime in if I learn anything.

Planning on this with the 15 mile bike ride back to Skagway.

Interesting. Will have to look into this.

I have read great things about it. You get on a catamaran that holds about 150 people while the cruise ship is in Tracy Arm and it takes you way up into TA where the cruise ship can not go. You get to see the North and South glacier. Then they take you back to the cruise ship in Juneau. A little expensive but so many people said it was the highlight of their trip.
Are you doing the Seattle roundtrip? Please come back and let me know what you thought!

I am and I will.
I've done this trip before (different ships and several years ago) and it is fantastic.

Do you have an idea about what time you'd get to Juneau?
I want to hike up Mt. Roberts while there. A really nice excursion for the money-free.

The excursion is listed as being 5 hours long and it leaves at 8 that morning so you should get back sometime around 1pm. I would give an hour of wiggle room, for sure. It could be late getting back and if you are tendered in Juneau they are required to take you back to the boat where you have to get back on and then get back off. Since you would miss the tender tickets that morning you could have a little bit of a wait to get on a tender. Our stop is a tender stop but I know they do dock at the pier sometimes. If they are docked then it is not nearly as much of an issue and you only need to worry about the first excursion running long.

Great. Thanks for the heads up about this. Sounds fantastic.
Have you figured out anything to do in Victoria? I'm thinking of just hitting some brewpubs on foot.

Butchart Gardens is a must. Trust me on this one...

I need to see if we are arriving early enough to make it worthwhile. Don't think we dock until 5 or something like that.

You can do the Gardens in Victoria. It is open very late, they just quit doing tours around 9 pm but you can still walk around yourself. I don't know if we will end up doing that or not, I heard it is neat but not really my thing. If we don't go there we will just walk around to say we have been and get back on the ship.

We are doing this cruise in mid July on Princess. We went to Butchart Gardens many years ago. I am a flower lover and this was heaven on earth for me. The day that we are in this port is only for evening hours so we will not do the gardens.
We are hoping to get most of our excursions picked out this weekend.

It's an amazing place. Is your ship going to Glacier Bay?
Some T.A. photos I've taken

Just hike up Perseverance Trail up in the Basin.. You can do it from downtown. Mt. Roberts is a nice hike but I much prefer Perseverance.

Not sure about Ketchikan, but Juneau either the Twisted Fish or the Hanger on the Wharf
Skagway Fish Company in Skagway or Northern Lights Pizza. The Pizza place is more of a local hangout, good place to grab a brew as well. Pretty much everything in Skagway is located within a few block walking area.

There is not much shopping in Ketchikan. If your bored catch the lumberjack show, its actually not horrible. Didnt like the food at annebelles.

Thanks! I will look into this!
EDIT: Upon review, what if you met us there and gave us a guided tour?
We are not going to Glacier Bay. I booked the small boat excursion into Tracy Arm. Reviews are extremely positive.
Those pictures are great!
Warning for others. Don't go to Alaska on a cruise expecting sun. That will be a bonus. I went to Ketchikan about 4 times before I knew there were mountains all around it.
But even in misty/cloudy it is phenomenal.

We could do that. Just let me know what day you'll be here and the times you have available. If nothing pressing is going on we can do. I've met a few folks from TD up here.

You will enjoy the Alaskan cruise. We have been on two. We did the all day White Pass Railroad excursion through the Yukon Territory and enjoyed it very much. In Juneau we went on a whale watching excursion boat which was fun. They also took us to an outdoor salmon bake on the banks of a mountain stream where they were grilling fresh salmon. I don't recall many gourmet restaurants in Ketchikan but the first place I would look is the Cape Fox Lodge. This is the hotel on top of the hill. They have a nice restaurant there overlooking the harbor. They have good salmon on the ship itself but chances are it is all frozen. If you want it straight from the water, get it in port.
