Colorado is in play here, but this will be the wife's first backpacking trip, so I must take into account her abilities as well.

I would love to go to the San Juans in southern CO but I worry about the elevation.

this is easy.... Eagle Rock Loop at Albert Pike.

Lost creek wilderness is near Denver. Lower altitude but really cool rock formations and creeks. Fall would be a great time to be there.

So many options a day drive away.

The Ozark trail is extremely underrated, and an easy hike.

Mt Neebo in Arkansas, nice trails for all levels. Not a bad drive either.

Yep.. Eagle rock loop is what you're looking for. I've never done it, almost did but didn't have enough time. Supposed to be really nice, 30 mile loop.

thanks

looks like that might be a winner

I really want to go to CO, but it would probably be smarter to start my wife off easy

Just a point of clarification. I meant this "choice" was easy.

as in -Eagle Rock loop is what your looking for.

Hiking 25+ miles over 2-3 days isn't exactly a cake walk. At least I don't think it is, I'd do it in a heart beat tho!

There are a bunch of river crossings and the water can get high.
