It's about time.
FYI, it only works on Chrome and Safari right now.

But the human eye can't see beyond 30...

Better for slow motion playa

He was joking. It's a myth.

Yeah it's pretty noticeable

Unfortunately, Youtube's video compression absolutely destroys video quality.
I'll watch movie and game trailers on their official sites, or on Vimeo, Gamersyde, or even IGN. The difference in video fidelity is quite noticeable.
Despite having unlimited resources and finances, Youtube's monopolistic reign on internet videos means they have little incentive to allow users to upload uncompressed videos.

Yep, the bitrate has always been pretty bad even at 1080p. More 4K content would be good, which can be played on lower res monitors, and you get the added benefit of streaming at a higher bitrate so it looks somewhere close to what you'd expect at 1080p.

I wouldn't say unlimited, as there are limits to everything. And when you're talking about multiplying storage and bandwidth costs (Youtube's primary expenses, I would imagine) by 2-5 times or more, that's the difference between being profitable and being a huge money pit.

Just a few more of these.

You get me.
YouTube videos do suck though.

Even worse. They now have an autoplay feature that can not be turned off. I have a channel. You watch a video I uploaded. It automatically starts playing the next video and the next and the next once the one you wanted to watch is over. Very annoying.

Even if it were true, there are other good reasons to have 60fps video.
For example, I play a lot of 8-bit/16-bit classic video games, and I often capture my gameplay and upload it.
A lot of games use flicker effects. For example, in Mega Man games, if you are hit by an enemy, you have invulnerability for 2 or 3 seconds, during which your character is semitransparent. Since classic consoles didn't support semitransparent sprites, the developers used a trick where they made the sprite flicker on one frame, then off one frame, on one frame, off one frame. Flickering that fast, it creates the illusion to your eye that the character is semitransparent. All of those games are locked at 60Hz/60fps.
When you upload footage of that to YouTube, the downconversion algorithm just drops every other frame in the video, which means when you are hit the flicker effect is gone, and either nothing happens (the character doesn't appear to be hit) or the character disappears from the video altogether.
It's not that big of a deal but it is something that bugs me.

That's an interesting and highly specific benefit for 60fps.

Why do you do this? And why do I never see you on the gaming board?
