Twc just increased our internet speed to 100mb. When running a speed test my computer which is wired into the router is now getting 90 to 100mb, but all of my wireless devices (iPhones, iPads, Samsung phones) are still getting around 20-30mb. When I change my wireless band on my router to 5ghz/40mhz the iPads get 80-90 Mbps, but my other devices can no longer connect. Any suggestions?

What's your router model?

Chances are your router can't run both bands simultaneously and your 2.4ghz band is 802.11g. The iPads are probably the only ones capable of connecting at 5ghz.

A new router is probably in order. Dual band, 802.11n spec. Asus RT-N66U is often recommend.

Also remember wireless speed require capable devices on both ends - if your client device is older then a faster speed by the router will be of marginal or no help. Just as a "rule of thumb", if your client device cannot utilize the 5G bands it is not going to approach ethernet speeds. I use Android and my current phone is more than double the 2.4G speeds of its predecessor & the same holds true for the wife's iPhone 6+ compared with her prior 4S. Both my Android & her iPhone have 5G speeds equal to ethernet. FWIW, the above comments are based on the same modem & router combination.

This is true.

What do you mean by ethernet speeds? 1gbps? 10gbps? That is ethernet speed on LANs.

For internet speed, there is no reason you shouldn't get 50-70mbps on any wireless N 2.4ghz band device with just one antenna (minimum) in the device. 5ghz doesn't even matter in the general discussion. You don't need 5ghz to equal utilize a 100mbps or 150mbps internet connection wireless.

2.4ghz 1-2 antenna devices are overly common. A wireless N router with 2 antennas providing coverage for wireless devices with 2 antennas will push out 140+mpbs.

My usage of "ethernet" refers to devices (such as a PC) hardwired via ethernet connection. Sorry if confusing.

I'm presently on a 75 Mbps plan. I actually attain speeds of 80 Mbps+ on two ethernet connected desktop PC's & 5G wireless on both late versions of Android & Apple devices. Wireless speeds on the 2.4G bands top out on the same devices in the mid-50's. Our older iPhone 4S and (2012) Nexus 7 will not break 30 Mbps on 2.4, their only option.

I have a Cisco e2000. I have a iPhone 6,iphone5s and a galaxy s3. Router supports 2.4 at 20mhz and 5.0 at 40 MHz. The router cig allows you to configure 20 & 40 MHz when set to 5ghz.

That router cannot broadcast on both networks simultaneously. It looks like a good time to upgrade. You can stick with Linksys (Cisco) and get the E2500 on Amazon for $50.
The standard recommendation here, however, is the Asus RT-N66. It has great range and a ton of features standard.

And you need more than that to do what?
