Windows 10 update, Steam not working

So after my windows 10 update, Steam isn't launching any of the games. It says it needs directx9. I'm on like 11 I believe.
Must be a common problem, because a bunch of stuff comes up when I google it.
I downloaded something that was supposed to fix the directx issues. First it asks me where I want to put the file. When did that start happening? And it didn't autorun the install.
Either way, it didn't do shite. I'm still not able to run my steam games.
Anyone have any suggestions?

When you say update, do you mean that you went from Windows 7/8 (and your games worked) to Windows 10 (and games suddenly didn't work)? Or were games working fine in Windows 10 until a recent update?

So, make a folder somewhere, extract the directx redist files to it, and then go to that folder and run the DXSETUP executable.

I was running 7.
I did just what you said as you said as far as running the exectutable. I've just never seen that before.

I did a fresh install of 10, then Steam. No issues. There is hope.
