My laptop notified me that updates needed to be installed this morning and it turns out its this update.

Apparently it's a huge update. Currently installing now 20% done copying files.

Anyone install this? What's changed?

Handful of stuff. Nothing earth shattering. Mostly sounds like good stuff though. Googleize it and you can find all the details. I pushed it to my work laptop but haven't used it enough to really give much feedback. Expect updates like this a few times a year. There likely won't be any more service packs or versions of Windows any time soon if ever. Windows is now a 'service'.

Just finished. It uninstalled CPUZ because it said it wasn't compatible with the current version of Windows

It also changed all my program defaults to Microsoft's defaults

EDIT: Also reverted my AMD GFX drivers to an older version

That's what they want. It's a guaranteed cash cow. Office, Adobe, etc have already made the switch. IMHO, it's a terrible antiquated business model. Very few applications required the "newest" edition. I can see consumers pushing back against this with a passion.

Windows 10 is getting a massive update
quote:

It's essentially Windows 10's first "service pack,"

quote:

After updating your Windows 10 PC, your computer will boot faster, your photos will be clearer, reminders will be easier to set, and your PC will perform more smoothly.

quote:

Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) says the new update will make Windows 10 boot 30% faster than Windows 7 PCs. The Edge browser will get a Chrome-like feature, allowing people to sync their favorites across all Windows 10 devices. You'll be able to use handwriting to set reminders in the Cortana virtual assistant app. And a host of driver updates will help make Windows 10 PCs take better photos and run more smoothly.

It is technically the same as the latest Windows Insider build that i have been running for a couple of weeks now (build 10586).

Expect more in the future. This is not the same old Windows where in the lifespan of the OS you receive like 2 maybe 3 service packs. MS is going to be rolling out major updates to the OS 2-3 times a year. It is like they are going more towards the Ubuntu model as far as OS updates go.
