I am Epic certified in the revenue cycle and would like to begin working on certifications and other skills that will help in the future.
Where should I start? I'd like to work my way towards healthcare IT certs, but need to start with basics.

Anything and everything to do with security.
Start with Network+ then Security+ if you really want the basics, then go up from there.
CompTIA also has a Healthcare IT Technician Cert, but I don't know much about it.

How much are you willing to spend

If it benefits my employer, I may be reimbursed. I don't know which types of numbers you're talking about.

I concur with previous posters regarding ITIL, Net+, Sec+
I also have to ask if you are in a position that will support your use of the certification in an experience capacity? Meaning, do you have the cert to add it to a sig block or resume; or do you have a cert that correlates with work experience listed on your resume.

Good question, a lot of the certs are adding labs, and trying to make sure that you can't pass without real world experience.

thank God.
if i could count on one hand the amount of "CCNAs" that couldn't route their way out of a paper bag.....
i do know a few CCIEs. those guys have to fly to the bay area, set up a lab, let cisco break it, then go and fix it back up. pretty darn intense cert.

Very little. Long story short, I started as an end user, am now an Epic certified trainer that builds minmally, will be transitioning to a building role in the future. My goal is to supplement what I know today with a strong foundation and move on from there. I haven't a clue where to start.

What's your actual job title/function?
Once you get past the very basic certs some if the others will be tough to get without real hands on experience.
Those companies don't want you to get their certs unless you know what you are doing. Otherwise you devalue the cert.

I can tell you that there are a lot of CISA and CISSP guys in banking. And banks always seem to be hiring techies.

Applications Analyst- I'm a trainer for one of the revenue cycle applications.
Maybe certifications aren't what I'm looking for. I'm done with school and I'd like to continue education to make myself a more well-rounded employee in healthcare IT.

I wouldn't bother with Networking and Security then unless you really plan to go that directtion career wise. Seems like it would be a waste.
