certainly better than the iPad 3. He'll get plenty of enjoyment and use out of the one you got, but I still think that last years retina mini is the best bang for the buck.

Thanks man, he tried my sister's mini and preferred the full size ipad. If not I definitely would have went mini, definitely more bang for your buck
I went with the 4 based on the lightning connector and retina display, I figured it wouldn't become obsolete as fast.

Yeah, I considered it, but it was around that time that I was realizing that a tablet just doesn't suit my use.

Got a 3yr old an iPad 1 with 64gb. It's completely FULL of movies and learning games. He's 5 now and it still works great.
My point is, get 64gb then whichever model you can afford.

Get a mini and through a defender or survivor case on it.
