I had the 2nd gen Nexus 7 and I loved it....but my 2yr old broke the charging port.....

I've been using a iPad mini for about 2 years and want to jump back to an android tablet.

What are the good droid cost friendly tablets out now?

Good on performance and customization wise? Roms, etc

My son has the same Nexus. I don't think they make anything good for a decent price anymore. We recently opted for a Chromebook instead.

The Nexus 7 supports wireless charging so you could still use it, just need to get a wireless charger.

???

While Apple outsells each individual competitor, total android sales blow apple out of the water.

I've got two Nexus 7 (2013) and have been please with them as well. It's too bad Google got out of this space.

The Amazon Fire 8" is $80 and the 7" is $50. They're decent and allow you to download Amazon content for viewing / playing off-line. You can add up to 256 GB micro SD to the latest models. They run a customized Android - FireOS and use the Amazon app store but you can sideload apps from the Google Play store. I'm guessing that they can be modified to run a standard Android.

ASUS and Samsung both have 7" and 8" models between $100 - $200.

There are eBay vendors that will replace the charge port for $25. You pay shipping.

I just bought the Fire HD 8 (7th gen) a couple of days ago. It's pretty sweet for $80. No root yet though. I did install Google Play Store on it though, which was very easy to do.

Samsung Chromebook Plus or Pro.

I was a little concerned about the 'new' feature in Chrome to run Android apps, but, it runs every app I've thrown at it.

Highly recommended.

I just bought an 11" Samsung Chromebook 3 as a replacement to one I bought in 2013. It's a basic Chromebook with a spill resistant keyboard and 11 battery life.

Celeron CPU / 4GB RAM / 32GB SSD for $179 at Bestbuy: LINK
