RepRap Prusa is going to be your best option...all open source software, and comes in a kit.

hey 6 days late is better than never, thanks for the reply. I have read about that one. Reviews say it is ok, but since the A frame jointed connections are not braced very well it is susceptible to move in that axis, which leads to mot very accurate printing.

You can look at MendelMax, and Airwolf kits. I have a Revolution XL and it neded to be tweaked from the start. The hotend, filiment drive gear, and Z stop adjustment are where the major problems come from.

Find someone with a 3D printer and have them print you another 3D printer.

I can already tell I need to stay far away from this as a hobby or it will quickly become an expensive obsession for me.

i want to print a heatermeter box and fan mount. The heater meter site has people you can order from but i want to see the texture first. And i like project so it would be nice to build something new, ill use 2 or 3 times and then it will sit in my closet for 2 years until i need to print something else.

Do you already have the .stl files for this? If you do and its a one time print...sent them to the EBR Library on goodwood, and have them print it for you. Tell them to do a solid fill in the notes, solid fill makes the print more stable.

For a 100% smooth finish you need a 40k laser (Stratasys) printer...DYI option is to use acetone bath or acetone vapor method.
