Weird...slow broadband speedtest, but fast download/streaming?

I have Cox internet (the 100Mbps package). Download speed tests typically range from 15-25Mbps but I've never had any buffering issues, so I tried to see if I could force one. I ran Netflix and 3 1080p youtube videos at the same time. The network software showed it peaked out at just over 60Mbps with no buffering on any of the videos.
Is there any reason why the speed test results suck and actual use is acceptable?

You pay for the 100Mbps package and speed test typically never go over 25Mbps? Which modem to you have?

It's a Netgear modem (not sure the model, but it's new). Looking at the cable modem parameters, the signal is strong with a good S/N ratio, so I don't think it's a bad line or anything. However, the contractor that installed it had no idea what he was doing. I pretty much had to show him how to everything.

do you have a docsis 2.0 modem? If so that could be your bottleneck. Your router may also be set up for some sort of "Quality of Service" type thing (mine has that option) and it basically takes your Internet Speed and caps out each device to a certain speed so that no other device can hog the bandwidth. That used to cause my speed tests to show up as a 25Mb down even though I was paying for 60.

Yeah, I dont think the brand matters as much as making sure it is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I couldn't get over 25Mbps until I upgraded a while back and now I max out at 100Mbps consistently.

i got a docsis 3.0 modem and my speed test are still trash, guessing next step is to upgrade to a better wireless router

test it with a wired connection and you can see if the router is the bottleneck

25 is the max you will get on a wireless g router with only one band. 54mbps, cut in half for send and receive. So, like others say, plug into router and retest.

so i tried to plug directly into my modem and i have no internet connection. i know when i set everything up it was wireless and the modem was plugged into the router, do i need to call cox to be able to have internet direct from my modem?

A modem provides internet to a router..That is its job..Unless you specify settings in your PC that emulate that modems network, it is doing its job...Your issue, as pointed out repeatedly, is that your old router is only pumping what it can pump...Plug into IT and report back

something is not right here, what time of day do you speed test. With cable during peak hours its going to be slower.

I don't think it's a WIFI problem... speeds are basically the same plugged in or not...
I have a program that logs a speed test every hour. Speeds the last 24 hours have ranged from 11-26 Mbps (that's plugged in to modem/router). Real use however shows I often go well over the max speed test results... as high as 60+ Mbps.
The modem/router is a Netgear N600 C3700-100NAS and I've yet to find a setting or parameter that helps.
$79.00/month for top tier, BTW.

While not a mainline opinion, I think this could be your biggest issue..I never use AIO..
You also could have internal NIC issues on the PC itself
Try googling your netgear, and add slow speeds behind it...(You aren't alone)

They are probably throttling your speeds. Like I said peak hours will be slower. You don't need super high speeds for decent quality streaming and downloading. Mid 20's is fine. But if you are paying for a 100 even during peak hours you should be pulling 70.
