Morning folks. A friend of mine (mid 50's) has a (very) small business which she operates out of her home. She would like to get a website to market her business to new potential clients and asked me if I knew of any plug-n-play type of services where you add your own text and photos and voila - a working business.

I checked into Wix a bit, but it appears they don't really have the complete offering which she needs which would include domain registration, site hosting and easy to edit website (which probably wouldn't have to be edited at all to be honest).

I want to get her set up but don't want to have to be the one to edit it on a whim.

Any input would be appreciated. TIA

I'm currently using eHost to host a couple of websites. I've always used Namecheap for my domain registration. Look for a web hosting company that supports cpanel. A lot of people will recommend using Wordpress for the actual website design. I'm using Concrete5 and it's pretty easy.

The way it works is that you register on eHost (they include a free domain name), then go into the cPanel of the domain and install a content management system (CMS) such as Wordpress or Concrete5, or some others. Then you chose a templet to install, and edit it.

Thanks Cubs - how much does that run you a month?

I've built 3-4 sites for our businesses but I actually know how that all works. I don't want to have to be burdened for someone else's crap if you know what I mean.

I'm 2 years into a 3 year contract that I paid $59.40 for ($1.65 per month). That's a 70% discount. They start you off with a 50% discount, but if you keep leaving the site, they will up the discount. I think you have to register for the site before leaving, but get the 3 year price in your cart, then try to go to another website and see what they do, maybe a popup or something. I think they finally emailed me the 70% off offer.

ETA: Try this link for the 70% discount. LINK

I registered for the site, but did not go through with the purchase on 8/7/15. On 8/8/15 they emailed me a 60% off offer. On 8/14/15 they emailed me the 70% offer. Wait it out if my link doesn't work.

If it's just basic like Homepage / About Us / Contact Us / Projects / etc, then she can use something much easier than cpanel and a CMS.

Pretty much every host now days has their own builder and there isn't much difference between them. Weebly, wix, squarespace, it's all the same functionality.

agree 100%. old people/ non technical people = drag n drop

Have her look into weebly.com. Very easy to use WYSIWYG interface and it allows you to choose from a boatload of templates.

If you don't mind your domain being yourcompany.weebly.com you can build/host the site for free. Or you can register a domain and have it point to the weebly site.

Appreciate the input guys - all well received.

Spoken (and looked at) 1and1 (I use them for our biz), E-Host, Hostgator and will be looking at Weebly although they are $8/month at a minimum and the others average out to $3-4/month but Weebly does appear to be on par with what I need - particularly b/c of the clean lined templates so I wouldn't have to build it.

Well, if you need to build a website with a nice design, you can try the best wordpress themes. I use them for my work. The most important thing I like that they are perfectly viewed on any modern electronic gadget whether it’s a desktop computer or a handheld device. And I think it is very important nowadays as a lot of people use Internet on their mobile phones. This feature really helps me in my online business. Good luck!

I would reccomend host gator. There is usually deals to start really cheap with their "hatchling" plan. There are also plenty of tutorials on how to setup basically everything from setting up CMS, then log in to the site etc. on youtube. One could spend three days and have a pretty nice basic webpage set up.
