Does anyone out there harvest the parts? I already have a replacement but this one's just sitting there. I'm worried about data on it if I just hand it over to someone though.
Thoughts or suggestions?

just let it air out for a few days
like out in the sun, screen down for a cpl hours then
in front of a fan...remove the back if you can etc
but someone may contradict leaving it out in sun...
the idea is to let it get dry.
then plug it in the see what you can read off the phone to know for sure
you may find it works perfectly unless it was on when it went for a swim, then all bets are off

how often are peoples phone not on? I would guess less than 1% of the time.

true
but it won't cost a dime to give it a try anyways
he's got nothing to lose

I would put it in rice before I put it in the sun
If he's already got a replacement, it's probably too late for that anyway

Submerged it for multiple hours in water a week ago Wednesday. Inserted into rice the same night. Stayed in there until last Saturday around 7pm. Tried to power it on afterwards and there was nothing...
Got a replacement (same specs) last weekend on Saturday.

It may come back to life.

I would probably take the gamble and buy it from you. I'm in Central.

Yes. Not sure what the market is currently, but there is definitely a market for water damaged iPhone online. Just search ebay for your hone and add "water damage" to the description. Several should come up. If youre worried about personal information, look for buyers who advertise that they wipe the device.
