Video calls: Skype vs Hangouts

My younger sister just started school at Chapman in California, and I wanted to set up a video calling service so we can talk a couple of times a week. I have been reading reviews online, but as always, every website fails to decide which one is best. Forums really have limited info from people who have used both.
I used Skype a few years ago, and the quality was pretty crappy. It was constantly lagging. Haven't every used Hangouts video calls. I have no idea if they have fixed Skype yet or not.
She has all Apple products, and I was hoping that I could get something close to the call quality of Facetime. She's also not too tech savvy, so the easier it is to set up, the better.
She will be using the campus Wifi, and I consistently get above 30 dl and 10 ul on mine.

Skype. I use it to call home. It is so easy even my tech retard mother can use it.

I use Tango. It has vastly improved. Reason I do Tango over Hangouts is because the other person has an Iphone.

Isn't hangouts web based though?
I used Tango for a while, but it was just as glitchy as Skype. I just stopped video calling all together because of that

There is a video chat feature in the app. Tango was pretty bad a few years ago. It was crystal clear yesterday.

Gotcha. I think I might have to find a buddy to test all of these out on. It used to be frustrating as hell trying to video chat with someone and it would lag and spaz out constantly. I just quit doing it

When I was in Australia I had pretty shitty internet and Hangout was the only thing that got decent video. Skype and Facetime were both awful.

Hangouts is pretty good if each party has a decent webcam and connection. Mobile devices on hangouts have been hit or miss with me. Computers much better.
Don't have too much experience with Skype. Though I hear it uses a more efficient codec.

Just tried hangouts and tango with a buddy, and hangouts is the clear winner out of those two. He was on an s6 and I was on my laptop
