Updating Kodi on FireTV Stick

How do you update your Kodi on a FireTV stick without fire starter? My only thought would be to uninstall and sideload the new apk file, but I don't want to lose all of my sources and addons.

It just runs Android, and typically when you sideload an apk you don't have to uninstall the old one first. It just upgrades the existing app and keeps all your settings.
I have not tried this, but I think it should work.

Just go to the link on es file explorer and download the zip file and it updates it for you. I didn't lose any add ons or anything

I download the updated apk to my phone or tablet and use es file explorer to send the file to the fire stick that also has es file explorer, then install right over the previous installation.
