So I’m in the market for a Soundbar and stopped in the local Best Buy and was not impressed with the salesman as he pushed the Samsung top of the line hard(about 1k) and bad mouthed the Polk, jbl, and Sony sound ads. Looking for any help on recs and looking for the best sound of course for the best price. 5.1 compared to 3.1? Looking to spend anywhere from 250-750? Appreciate the help.

Sonos isn’t the cheapest but good sound and super easy to use. A sonos sound system is not bad, but a little overpriced. Even just an arc and a sub works pretty damn well, but you may as well drop another 400 for the rears.

If you want some really nice rears, the new 3s sound amazing and really change the direction of sound in a room. They aren’t cheap though at 379 a piece. The sound difference is pretty stark, imo.

Samsung's Q-990C is usually regarded as the best. So he's not necessarily wrong about that.

But for your price range I would look at

Vizio M-Series 5.1.2 $400

The surrounds are wired directly to your subwoofer, so that might not work for everyone's room.

Vizio Elevate 5.1.4 $650

Same type of surrounds. The sub needs to be in the back of the room with wires running to your surrounds.

Sonos Beam Gen 2 $480

If you want something smaller, without surrounds or a sub. One of the nice things about Sonos is you can always add speakers or subs. It gives you a great upgrade path that no other soundbar offers.

If I were in the market at your price range I'd probably spend a little more and get the Sonos Arc.

Arc $883

Then maybe next year start adding surrounds and a sub. Whenever your budget allows.

But the Beam Gen 2 is a great option as well.

You can read some general stuff about all of those on rtings

The arc does a good job of filling up your room and it gives you options. You can go with the surrounds first, or a sub.

If I were you, I would consider getting the arc, then start eying the 300s. The sound that combination produces is pretty damn good. It literally fills the whole room with sound. Blew my mind.

I had a Vizio.

It sounded amazing but the firmware & software was awful and it was riddled with eArc handshake issues; it worked maybe half the time.

I returned it and went with Sonos at 3x the cost for the same sound quality. Software and user experience infinitely better, however.

I have the arc, sub, and the sl1s. Just bought a pair of era300s and like the other poster said... its pretty amazing.. the beam generation 2 is also a good choice, depending on your room size...

I hope sonos pushes an update that allows you to pair the sub minis. I put one in my office and it’s pretty rich. Would love to get 2 and replace the sub in my living room.

Having a mini in the front and back of the room or in the left and right side would be optimal. 2 subs is just too much, imo.

I tried a few out and ended up with Sonos. It sounds pretty good, and my wife and daughter can work it.

The biggest selling point is that the sonos easily connects to my kitchen Sonos speakers really easily.

I have this one. It's really good.

For the money, I was really pleased with the two Vizios I had prior. I was just ready to move to something with dialogue as feature, and the dialogue mode on the Samsung has helped us get rid of captions.

I just got the Sonos beam 2 and it's fantastic. I was able to get rid of other devices as it has Alexa built in to just stream music etc. The interface of sonos is the best there is. Apple quality interface.

How is the sound for a Sonos beam 2?

I have a bose sound bar that is probably six or seven years old and it is good. But, I think I want to upgrade. I do not use a sub or additional speakers. Is the beam 2 worth an upgrade?

I have the m-series. I've enjoyed it, especially at it's price point

IMO, for movie watching, you can get away with no sub, however, I'd strongly recommend at least getting the Ikea Sonos speakers as surrounds (250 for a pair or less).
