Trying to set up second monitor to hp touchsmart all in one

I am trying to set up a second monitor to my hp touchsmart 500 series all in one computer. I want to extend, not mirror, does anybody know if this is possible??
The only inputs the computer has is USB, so I have a VGA to USB cable going from the second monitor to the computer. When I go to the settings I click on the second monitor and hit apply but nothing happens.

Might not be possible the way you're doing it.
Is the USB to VGA cable your using just a cable or an actual monitor adapter?
If it's an adapter - look online for drivers.
Otherwise switch to something like this...
USB to VGA External Video Card Multi Monitor Adapter
These aren't very powerful - so gaming isn't going to work well - but if you just need to drive a second monitor, it will work fine.
