In Chicken's stickied post he says they got 90 million hits in November. How does that compare to other sites? Trying to get an idea for how big that is.

It's really hard to say, revenue per click or impression varies a lot site to site. For a message board like this one, it's probably on the low end of earnings per hit due to high engagement and low click through rates.

Im not really a tech guy but thats understandable since the ads I assume are via adsense? I just notice the ads are always catering to my search history haha. Even on the low end, 90 million views is quite a bit, what would you estimate that is worth. How does adesense work is it by 100 or 1,000 or 100,000 views?

I wish Chicken or Circus Child would do a Q&A. This site is really awesome. Do you think they had any idea what it would turn into?

How much money do you think this place makes a month? 50k-75k would be my uneducated guess.

You get paid per click, and the amount paid depends on what advertisers are bidding. High value words (like insurance or finance) can pay a lot (like multiple dollars per click), while others (most) might pay 10 or 20 cents per click. Click rates also vary a lot from site to site. Obviously, you can just multiply your impressions by your click rate and average earnings per click to end up with a number that represents your revenue per thousand impressions (or RPM, revenue per mille).

Well, we still have two unknown variables in this equation, but I will give it a shot. I think the average across all sites is around $1 RPM, but I think TD would be quite a bit lower than this due to the nature of the site. I would imagine the vast majority of pageviews are users engaging with the site rather than just getting some info then clicking through an ad. Even so, you are right, 90M is quite a bit. I think a low estimate would be a 10 cent RPM, which would put that month's revenue at about $9k.

Of course, this could be way, way off, and I'm pretty sure the adsense TOS prohibits site owners from disclosing that info.

and do you think the advertisers are the reason for the mods? It seems like the mods just whack anything they dont like. I fully understand if its bc ads aren't allowed with certain pics or words. I Love Bama, I dont think it make $80k/mo bc thats $1M/year and thus TD is worth millions. I don't know the earnings but id imagine if they could get a few million dollars in a sale, they would've sold it already.

The 90M page views is one thing, but it really may not be that many unique users. The user engagement is off the charts here especially the poli board so I could see certain people leading to 1000+ page views/day. Im sure TD makes great money but if I had to guess I'd say $200-400k? I dont know that still sounds kinda high bc I've never clicked an ad or do the ads generate money either way by impression and more if they're clicked?

Most web reporting tools define a "hit" as serving a page or image. So basically, if a single HTML page is displaying 5 separate images, then it gets reported as 6 "hits".

At least, that's how it was when I was using WebTrends on a daily basis.

Tigerdroppings needs a faster server. During the coaching search response time was really slow.
Even now I have to constantly refresh.

Anybody else having this problem?

He referred to it as page loads which is vastly different from unique visitors.
