Bought a new tv this past week and need a way to stream Netflix, HBO, etc on it. Which device is best for the job. An Apple TV (3rd or 4th gen), roku, or an Amazon Fire stick.
Looking to get the best bang for buck with it.

I haven't used Apple TV since it first came out but I'm very happy with my Rokus. I have a handful of them and they've been great.

We have a Roku1 and love it.

All streaming devices are basically similar. Some just allow for more customization, and also have more ways to get streaming content that isn't on the....uh, up and up.

Roku is proven, reliable, cheap, and has by far the biggest library of channels. No need to look anywhere else.

I'm throwing Apple TV out of the equation. Between the Amazon Fire stick and the roku, which one is better? The roku seems to support more, but the fire stick is only $49 opposed to the $120 roku

You're comparing apples and oranges. The Roku stick is also $40.

Here's a comparison of the Roku models.

Tells you how much I know on the subject. I wasn't even aware there was a roku stick

Between the two, Amazon stick and roku stick, which one is a better buy?

buy the cheapest one since you'll end up putting kodi on it anyway.

Well, the Roku offers you some choices that the Fire doesn't. How would you propose to connect the box? Wired or wireless? Not all of them have ethernet ports and not all of them support wireless n or ac. If voice commands are your preference, you'll need to go to the top of the line for both. The low end Roku box is intended for CRT TVs and older LCDs because it doesn't support 1080P. If your TV is a UHD model, go for the top of the line.

Well I was going to go with the stick version of either one because it's cheaper and I'm not a baller like most of you.

Roku 3 is still a solid choice actually. It gives you access to anything that isn't Apple branded.

I also have an Nvidia Shield TV that I love, but it's a bit pricey.

Pick up a Roku stick and try it out. They're on sale for $29 right now. If you want to upgrade later, sell the stick on e-bay or give it to your kids.

Does Kodi run fairly well on it? I've been thinking about picking one up.
