Yes but I was trying this so I can use at hotel rooms or other places where chrome cast wasn't available to use

I'm not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure your device must have an MHL output thought that port. My Galaxy s6 did not have this capability, so I had to get a Chromecast.

What is a MHL output? I thought since it was a micro USB port adapter and plugged into the same micro port it would just work, but screen mirroring instead doing anythung
