I have an existing 3.1 setup for my tv. I'm thinking about adding the connect and getting two play 1s for other parts of the house.

Do any of the speakers have to be plugged into my router or can they all be wireless? I've seen a few reviews that state that one has to be hardwired.

i have been researching the Sonos too for my house once we move back after the flood.

The speakers definitely do not have to be plugged into the router. The connect Amp could be, but not sure it is a requirement.

We have 3 of the amplified sonos speakers at work that are just plugged into the wall for power, and connected to the network wireless and we control the music with the app either on smart phone or PC.

How do you like this setup?

i definitely want the 3.1 soundbar and subwoofer to replace my 2004 Bose Lifestyle surround sound system
(I already took down the speaker box mounts and sheetrocked in the holes with our rebuild)

My other issue is getting the connect amps to power my ceiling mounted wired speakers throughout the house and 4 wired patio speakers by the pool...
I wish the connect amps pushed more than what they say is a max of 2 pair of speakers per...

I just have a traditional receiver and speaker set up with my tv (also have wires run to the patio). I currently stream through my Apple TV but would like to go whole home. So I figure I would add the connect to that system.

The sonos sound bar and sub look legit but I can't justify replacing my existing set up with them.

Good deal. It's gonna be hard to spend $350 just to be able to get into the system but I think when it's all done I'll be glad I did it.

Everything is wireless now. You might have to plug one component in for the initial setup, but I doubt it.

As I've said in other Sonos threads (seems we have about one a week ), check out the older version of the Connect w/o Amp on ebay: ZP-80's and ZP'90s can be had for $100 or so less than the newer version, and they are basically identical.

Additionally, the older version of the Connect w/Amp (ZP 100) can also be cheaper, and has RCA line in and out. With that line in, you could send the sound from your existing receiver to Sonos (send FM radio, CD, TV sound, etc. across your Sonos system).

I have no idea why the newer version doesnt have Line in.

Yea I think at most, all you need is the Sonos bridge thingy and that counts now.

I could be wrong, but I don't even think that is required anymore. I never had one (always had a Connect hardwired to my router) but they updated the software a year or so ago to support wireless better.

Well, I'll be a monkey's arse. I could get rid of that thing and have 1 less thing sucking power in my house.

Thanks man, will give that a whirl this evening before gym time.

I'll bump my old thread instead of starting the new weekly thread.

I have a connect on the way for my existing 3.1 system. If I run an optical to my receiver will the Sonos automatically turn on the receiver when I play music?

I don't believe so but the opposite is true. If you turn on any music or video/tv source the playbar will auto turn on.

Bumping this thread to let y'all know to check your local Best Buy. I just picked up a play 1 in white (open box-excellent) for $115.
