Smart Watch Options... iWatch or Something Else?

Looking to get a Smart Watch for Father's Day next month and need to know what my best option is. I do have an iPhone, but am just not crazy about the price of the Series 2, nor the look.
Looking for something that can control music on my phone, tracks exercise (mainly running), shows when I have texts/calls although I don't need it to be able to answer them, and good battery life.
I like the look of the Gear S, but I don't think it's compatible with iOS. Should I just suck it up and get an iWatch or is there a better option, i.e. Blaze?

I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 Frontier. I do have a Samsung phone though but I think you can still use ALL of the frontier's functionality with an iPhone except the actual application (which I hardly ever use anyways).
ETA: I find that the iWatch looks good on female wrists but rather dainty on a mans wrist. I prefer larger watches because, well, I'm a man.

I have an Apple Watch and have been completely satisfied. Use it when running or biking.

Concur. It is incredible. You can improve the look through a selection of bands and digital watch faces.

Got an Series 1 iWatch used on Amazon and have been happy with it. I always have my phone with me when running so the series 2 wasn't a must have.

Another vote for Apple Watch here. I love mine. It is nice to be able to read texts without getting your phone out your pocket. Bunch of other cool features. My favorite is probably the pulsating when you are getting directions to somewhere. It will pulsate when your turn is approaching, for example. The reminders and stuff for the Activity component are also pretty neat.
FYI I don't think it's called an iWatch. Just trying to spare you from the funny looks when you in the store to inquire about one
ETA: The most recent ones are apparently waterproof. I have the previous edition and it's not completely waterproof, but you can still wash your hands, dishes, etc. without worrying about it getting wet and being ruined. Supposedly you can even take a shower with it, but I've never been bold enough to try. And the only downside with mine is that the battery life is awful. That may have been improved in the new edition though.

i hate to admit it, but my wife *LOVES* her iWatch (v1 i think) and rarely goes anywhere without it.
the kicker? she HATES technology so this is a big deal for me that she enjoys it.
i wouldn't own one; i'm in the market for a used Urbane2 or the LG Sport (if the price ever drops)

yeah its been a challenge. thats why the wink has to be PERFECT (aka blend into the background) so she doesn't get pissed off.
2 things happened in the last week i'm encouraged by:
1. she is interacting with alexa to turn lights on and get search advice
2. she has successfully used exodus to watch several movies without me being around.

Same
Fiancee has actually started trying to use Echo commands
She still loathes the harmony though

Thanks for all the input. Guess I'll be looking for an Apple Watch.
Any major changes between Series 1 and 2 besides water resistant?

Huawei watch (version 1) is the best looking smartwatch to date. I can't personally attest to it's compatibility with iOS, but I am fairly certain they work well together.

This is the only smart watch that I would wear.

GPS, faster processor, and brighter screen. Unless you want to swim with it or you have to have a GPS I would get the Series 1 or even the Series 0 (first gen) if you want to go the cheapest route.

I have the Gear 2 and I like it for what I do. I have had it for over a year and just now started to wear it when I started my walk/jog regimen. May upgrade to the Gear 3, I hear Samsung Pay works on it.

Never had the S2 but the S3 Frontier is nice. Got it on this very second and I paid for a Coke earlier at my vending machine at work with it.

I bought myself and my wife each a series 2 and have been very pleased so far.

I have a Moto 360 sport for working out and a Moto 360 version 2 for my everyday watch. I normally have the silver metal band on for work, but I have leather bands also to change it up.
The biggest selling point for me is the hundreds if not thousands of watch faces available to use on my everyday watch with the Watchmaker app. I currently use the Tag Heuer Connected watch face that another user was able to replicate. It is a beautiful watch face, but there is an endless supply of watch faces with many different uses and information displays available. Much more available and customizable than the iWatch (my wife has version 2 and loves it).
I usually keep the default watch face on my sport because it shows all my fitness information... but I also use the Atlas app to track my workout on the watch. There are golf apps to use on the watch also for distances... the uses are endless. The best purchases I have made for myself in a while.
