Wondering what you guys think are the best outdoor security cameras. Will be using them for my house, so I was wanting something that's not to big and looks decent.

EDIT: Sorry for the vague post yes I want wireless. I would like 4 outdoor cameras at least and 1 or 2 inside. Also I am not saying I want to have to rob a bank to pay for them, but I will pay more money for better equipment. I would like 1 or 2 terabyte storage in the recording device. I also don't want huge cameras hanging off my house. Hope that helps, and thanks for any advice.

Pretty vague post. Maybe try laying out more specifics of what you are looking for. Budget, number cameras, wired or wireless?

But yes. Get some cameras.

You can get all that professionally installed with a wired system for a little over a thousand dollars. For a few hundred more you can upgrade to POE cameras with higher resolution.

I am not in the business but everyone I have talked to has told me that the wired cameras are infinitely more reliable than the wireless ones.

Do you plan on installing them your self? Why do you want wireless?

I've had the Amcrest 960H for about 8 months now. It works great. 4 camera wired system, but is expandable for additional cameras. About $250 on amazon.

This. Find a company that will warranty the equipment and install for at least two years.

Meh, for a residence you really don't need more than 2mp cameras. And even now they have 3 and 4mp cameras coming out over coax. I know there is a theory here about how it is easier to pull category cable but people have been pulling siamese cable (rg59 w18/2 attached) for decades. Sure cat can get in tighter spots but it's easier to damage. Plus I prefer the reliability of a can power supply over a POE switch. Switches can go down and/or lose programming which can be a bitch.

I'm not saying coax > Cat systems but for homes/small business I prefer coax.

100% I am in the biz and even have wireless cameras (in addition to wired) But I don't see or use them as protection. They just aren't there yet for that. Plus you don't want security cameras on the same wifi network as all of your other connected devices. This goes for wired too. Your cameras should be on their own network.

Did you get that system to send emails when motion detected? Can it send alerts from different cameras?

Yes, It sends me an email with any motion detection from any camera.

To save on memory storage I set it up to only save 5 minutes before and after a motion detection. I believe once the memory is full it self deletes the oldest recordings as needed.

I did the installation myself. It took me about 6 hours or so. The instructions for set up to Wi-Fi and remote access was not that easy to follow, but after some tech support I got that part figured out. I live feed from my phone or laptop at anytime.

At the cost of it, It's an awesome peace of mind while out of town.

You have a lot to choose from but since you're into "decent" ones, you can opt to either canary or arlo pro. They both have amazing speak and hear thru the cam feature. We love it. The night vision is a great too. Though arlo pro is quite pricey and battery is quite sensitive. I think these details can explain further.
