Samsung is planning to ditch its popular Galaxy Note series and focus on launching just one flagship family every year, according to a new report. The South Korean company is making the change to ensure product quality and prevent another explosive debacle.

Fans had been wondering whether Samsung’s decision to cease Galaxy Note 7 production would mean the end of the Note series as we know it. Many believe the name has been tainted by the recent exploding battery issues, and that the Note would be unable to recover from it.

However, we believed that even if Samsung did discontinue the Note, another phablet would take its place. Now Korean news outlet Newsis, via The Korea Herald, claims we may have seen the last supersized flagship from Samsung.

The company has been refreshing the Note and the Galaxy S series every year since 2011, but it is claimed that the company’s tight release schedule — and effort to keep up with strong demand for two product families — is having an impact on product quality.

The Note 7, which was recalled for a second time last week and then discontinued, is a perfect example of slipping standards. Now Samsung wants to prevent another fiasco before its smartphone business is damaged even further.

Permanently discontinuing a flagship product, distrust from the entire customer base, and more negative publicity than you could dream up in a lifetime is a pretty good start.

The Note brand is destroyed. They will probably never make another Note phone. If they release new phablets with stylus in the future it will be under a different brand name. Samsung can only hope the Note fiasco didn't cause irreparable damage to their Galaxy brand, because that's their real cash cow.

It would be wise for them to migrate their "Note" market into a "Galaxy S8 Plus" market for the next go around. It makes sense from a consumer standpoint as well. People know that the iPhone 8 will be out next year and at that point they can get the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus. It's simple. Samsung should follow suit

Will the next iPhone not be the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus?

I personally think, Apple will ditch the tick-tock naming cycle and go with iPhone Series 10 for the the next iPhone to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.

I think Samsung can recover from this but it'll take some time to instill trust from consumers again. They're large enough to sustain a blow like this. If it was HTC or LG, they would be finished.

the next iPhone is supposed to be a massive design change so it definitely won't be a 7s
