Samsung 50" UHD Flat Screen

Took one home the other day for 998.00 and was so disappointed I took it back and got a Samsung 1080P 55" for 250 less. Movies looked great but not a whole lot better than the 1080, the sports and live stuff on the UHD was terrible, lots of blur and ghosting. Golf was terrible, the ball looked like a white blob and the pins were distorted. I don't know if it was a bad set but I was very disappointed, the 1080 is noticeably better in that department with this particular model. I'm just not prepared to drop 1500 - 2000 on a curved set when I had read some really bad reviews when it comes to watching sports on them.

Got the same one. I don't know what's up with my cable though picture looks horrible and the screen isn't full. Netflix and all that looks great though.

Same experience, but I mostly bought it for football and golf and the picture was terrible, tons of distortion and tics, lots of ghosting, blur, footballs would disappear in mid air, I have direct tv

Did you try and adjust the set at all?

Sounds like the settings were off.

i bought all new high speed hdmi's (on amazon) not sure if that matters. also calibrated it based on some forum i read. only issue i had was the last software update gave it this annoying 27sec flicker thing, that fixes itself when i unplug it (but i lose my calibration which sucks)

If you were sitting more than 5-6 feet away, 4K will look no different from 1080P on a 50" screen, so obviously the same would apply to a 1080P upscaled on a 4K screen. Any perceivable difference would be in panel quality/technology (color depth/accuracy, contrast, refresh, etc).

There may have been some settings you could've adjusted to help, but it also sounds like the TV may have had problems with effectively processing and upscaling broadcast TV on the fly. I'd be surprised if that were the norm for whatever particular model you chose though. Could've also been a fluke with your signal at the time. My parents have DirecTV and it does some crazy shite (ghosting/lag/artifacts/pixelation) from time to time.
Overall, you probably made a good decision saving your $250, which you can put towards something else that'll give you more than just placebo effect at best.

Yea, so I'm an idiot. For some reason my output was 480i from my cox cable box. Just changed it to 1080 wide. I guess when I switched TVs something got messed up. Picture is great now.

Most of the time, adjusting a few settings can made all the difference.
