For months I have been getting popups on the Google home page saying Chrome will download YouTube videos.
Realplayer will download YT videos will a little effort.
P.S. Do NOT use the RealPlayer compression codec they constantly ask you to use. The resulting download can only be played on RealPlayer!!!

I've been using keepvid.com for a while, which means there is probably a better way but it works well for me.

Stupid question, If you rip videos from a premium youtube channel (one you pay for), can they tell your downloaded them?

What Browser are you using? Some browsers have extensions/add-on's that allow you to download directly from the browser.
If Firefox:
"1-Click YouTube Video Download"
"Download YouTube Videos as MP4"
If Chrome:
Can't find any (No surprise there)
If Internet Explorer:
Dafuq is wrong with you? Get a new browser.

Add "ss" to he URL immediately before "youtube" and it'll bring up a download prompt page.
Ex: "ssyoutube..." with the correct beginning and end of the URL the video is at
