I came across this review video by Marques Brownlee and am intrigued.

The phone will be well over $1000, but the possibility of a high end camera has my interest piqued.

quote:

But for that money, Red is promising a phone with supposedly revolutionary tech: a "holographic" display known as 4-View that not only provides a glasses-free 3D image, but also lets you look around and behind objects by displaying multiple perspectives on whatever you're watching.

The above sounds gimmicky to me, but in Marques’ hands on video, he appears quite impressed with it. Either way, I’m more interested in the camera.

That lense on the back takes me back to my Lumia1020, which blew every other smartphone out of the water. If only they hadn’t killed it off.

Anyone have any experience with Red as a company? Their products seems expensive as hell, but are they worth the cost? Anyone in the know have any idea what sort of camera should be expected on this phone?

RED has cameras ranging above $50,000 so I'd say they're definitely on the higher end of the spectrum. I was definitely intrigued when I heard about this phone, but right now it sounds a little gimmicky. I look forward to reading more about it though..

This is what the failed Amazon Fire Phone tried to hang it's hat on. The tech looked cool, just check out some of the videos here LINK , it just didn't sell phones any more than 3D has helped sell TVs.

Yeah, Red themselves discussed this I believe. Apparently this is a separate type of technology than previous failed 3-D models, but I don’t really know any of the details. I’m just hoping the camera that’s built in is Lumia1020 quality or above. And I wish they’d make a version with a simplistic screen over all of this holographic tech. I assume they’re using it for what it will be able to create with their photo/video capabilities though. I find that intriguing, but don’t care to see it used in other apps.

My fear are updates. I’ve long been an Apple user outside of my jump to Windows for the 1020. Updates were terrible with that phone and I haven’t played with android to know enough about theirs. Will updates be guaranteed long term? Or will they fade if the phone doesn’t sell as well as hoped?
