to go cordless. 1800 sq ft home. Looking at the following:

Netgear - 340mps, Docsis 3.0 modem $44.99

TP Link AC1750 router $84.99

this bundle which can also be purchased separately:
Netgear CM600 (960mps) modem and Nighthawk AC1750 router $199.98

Will the 340mps be sufficient or should I be aiming higher in that regard? All 4 have very good reviews on Amazon as well as CNet. Thoughts or other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Modem really depends on your ISP. Might want to check their compatible modem list, so they can push firmware upgrades directly.

Its Suddenlink. They said it had to have Docsis 3.0

This is the modem you want:

That router should be good unless you have a huge house. I went with the C8 for a little better range, but shouldn't make a huge difference. Placement is just as important as router performance, so try to get it as high as possible and centrally located.

Awesome. Thanks. What exactly is the C8? I can't find where it lists something with that.

I just switched from the archer C7 to a nighthawk r7000. See entire post in the other thread about r7000s crapping out

Yeah, those are actually the two that I'm deciding between. I found some info on the Nighthawk that sources the problem as the firmware and tells you what versions you can try, check my post in the thread you mentioned about the R7000. Would be interested to see if someone whose R7000 has bit the dust can be revived with that fix.

I had a terrible experience with the TP-Link Archer C7. Worked for about a week. Then it would just drop signal about every 20 minutes. I switched back to the Linksys I thought I was improving on. No problems since.

AubieALUM was having problems with the C7 as well and switched to the Netgear Nighthawk. Wonder if the C8 is having any related issues.

So, just wanted to give an update to anyone who might be interested. I had ordered the Nighthawk before seawolf responded so decided I would give that a shot. Tried it out with the firmware it shipped with and couldn't get over 105 Mps. Keep in mind this is a 200 Mps connection. Updated the firmware and it shot up to 149 Mps but also went as low as 30. Tried adjusting some different settings like the QoS, turning off Traffic Monitor....nothing worked. Looked up some more reviews online that stated Netgear was ignoring the issue with wifi speed pass through. Tried downgrading the firmware to a couple versions that were suggested but they come in a .chk file and not the new .img file type so no dice there either. Finally said screw it, shouldn't have to do this much to fix a brand new product. Ordered the TP Link Archer C8 as suggested by seawolf. It came in last night, hooked it up and the first speed test I ran was 216 Mps. Ran about 5 more on my phone and wife's phone just for good measure and they all tested at 215 and 216. So, in summary: Netgear Nighthawk is the suck and TP Link is a bad arse router. Thanks for the suggestion on the C8, seawolf!

That's weird. I have the 6700 nighthawk. I have 150 down and always get around 150 or more. Most consistent router I have ever had

Yeah, it's like the best selling router on Amazon. I was disappointed. The router I upgraded from was also a Netgear which I've had for about 4-5 years and has been great.

16x4, if you are running 300up then you may want to get the better version if not this isnt a bad deal for only 94
