I've used a MacBook Pro in the past and currently a Dell XPS. Both have been fine.

Fast processor is more important than # of cores.
Faster the storage the better. (For your Lightroom catalog and previews. Not necessarily your photos)
Dedicated GPU can improve some functions in the Develop tab.

I'm in a similar situation, but more for using lightroom when I'm out of town and still using my desktop as my main Lightroom editor. Looking to spend around $500,any thoughts on this? LINK
ETA: I'm also considering a Chromebook and just using lightroom mobile too...
