I'm a little lost on this one guys.

I used to have no problem connecting to the server via RDP. For whatever reason, starting thursday, it's been a pain in the arse. Nothing has changed, we haven't updated anything.

-Firewalls off
-AV temporarily shut down (allowed me to get in on the 5th attempt)
-I've restarted the process multiple times

It's working sporadically. Anybody know? Google wasn't that helpful

Service stopping and starting itself? Anything in eventviewer?

Run a continuous ping test, see if it is dropping packets. Could be a poor connection.

Are you connecting via name or IP? If name, try direct to IP in case the DNS is acting up.

As the first poster said, check eventviewer to see if the service is having issues.

The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

I got this in event viewer. Just found it.. didn't see it yesterday

Google says i might have bad cert.

X509 Certificate
X509 Certificate ID
X509 Certificate2

If I delete, will i have set up anything new on restart or will it automatically recreate itself?

I didn't set up this RDP and I'm not sure honestly

Any possible way you have a duplicate IP out there?

How could I know?

This is a work server we have that host our trucking application and we have people who work out of town who remote into the server to use the trucking software.

I deleted those certs, now I get Remote session was disconnected because there are no remote desktop license servers available to provide a license

How long has the server been running and serving RDP?

Use gpedit.msc and configure the below settings:

Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ Windows Components\ Remote Desktop Services\ Remote Desktop Session Host\ Licensing

Use the specified Remote Desktop license server Enabled

Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode Enabled

After looking through other sever logs

I found the culprit.

I got 300k attempts on our work server trying to log into the admin account. Somebody was spoofing their IP and I got it showing attempts from Iran, Ukraine, Pakistan, China, ect.

Brute force attempt is what it looks like.

Now changing our RDP port forwarding and switching some settings in the server
