I've started having a new issue and no idea how to fix it. My laptop randomly crashes every few hours. It seems to be only when I have it connected to my monitor and mouse, but not 100% sure. My mouse is USB and monitor is microHDMI. The computer crashes completely, and I believe my network connection goes out first, then everything else, then frozen screen without response to any command. I have to hard reset, then I check the Events Log and it only shows that the computer was shut down manually, no crash data or error reports.

I've run a few system checks and virus scans with no progress. Anyone have ideas on what I can do to find the error or how to fix the issue?

TIA

edit: no consistent use of programs either, sometimes I'm playing a game, sometimes using internet, a few minutes ago I walked away with no programs running and it froze

If you are certain it doesn't happen when they aren't plugged in, you should uninstall the video and mouse drivers and then install the newest versions.

I'm assuming this is a PC...

Check your error logs and see what fails.

Control Panel -> System & Security -> Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer
Click on Windows Logs and check the System section.

In the listing you will see a KERNEL entry - which is when the computer crashed.

Look at the time stamps and search a few minutes before the Kernel entry, there should be some other entries for failures and that can lead you to the culprit.

If it's a desktop - make sure all of your fans are working - I've seen a few mysterious failures caused by overheating.

Tried this, the event log is fairly clean except seeing BTHUSB frequently near the freezes, with a warning logo. Updated its driver and researched it online. Sounds like it can shut off and come back online in power saving modes, and the shut off can cause errors if it fails. That sounded close to the Event Log errors for it, so I disabled that setting so it would stay on when the computer is on, regardless of power saving mode. We'll see if that fixes the issue

If that isn't the issue, I'm looking into a hard reset of the PC

Update: it happened again, guess I'm looking at a hard reset. Event log is completely clear for the 20 minutes before it shut down, so there's no way I can diagnose any issues
