Thinking about switching... they can cut our cable bill nearly in half with more channels. (Like we need that)

Is their picture quality as good?

Also, can they use the existing inside comcast wiring, or will they have to run new cable to every tv?

Or should I stay far far away from Uverse?

Thanks in advance, guys.

I just switched, so I'll let you know what I've figured out so far.

Uverse has wireless receivers available, so they won't have lines to every TV.
They don't use the same wiring as Comcast.
Their wifi has shitty range.

Do you like the TV part of it?

So... with 8 TVs, they will be in my house running lines for awhile, right?

I've had both. Uverse (TV and internet ) now and before that, Comcast (Internet only)

Both have their pluses and minuses, but if the option were available in my neighborhood, I'd back to Comcast.

Uverse picture quality is good if you get the HD package, can't speak on Comcast.

They shouldn't have to run new coax, but they will install a gateway and another box inside your home, which requires drilling. Keep this in mind if you're renting.

What I like about Uverse TV:

-SEC Network
-Channels are pretty well organized and grouped together
-Picture quality is good.
-Customer Service is much better than Comcast, but that's a pretty low bar

What I can do without:

-Implementation of HD channels. When you pay for HD, you get both the standard def channels and the HD channel. It's a PITA because my wife doesn't know/care about the difference and ends up DVR'ing shite in standard def. Maybe there's a way to kill the standard def channels but I haven't found it yet.
-Not particularly reliable. Everything goes out every now and then for no reason. It used to happen multiple times a day and they had to replace my down stairs DVR and the gateway.
-the price. The promo deal we have is good but the standard price is pretty high for something that really isn't all that special IMO.
-their mobile app is pure garbage. Poor design and freezes all the time.

In summary, I'd go with Comcast. Even though talking to comcast support is like the 7th level of hell, you usually don't ever have to talk to anyone because their stuff works well.

I have had uverse for about 4 years and I am not going back to Comcast. All of my receivers use ethernet connections since I already have them. When I previously lived in my townhome, they used the existing coax to connect the boxes. Neither place did they have to run any wires. I have only had 2 interruptions in service and both times it was because some idiot decided to not call before he dug and cut the fiber. Not sure if comcast has this but, I like being able to set a recording from my computer or phone.

I can't speak on Comcast, but I'll tell you all about U-Verse.

I had them. They are pretty good. Picture quality is great, channel groupings are good. (took a little while to get used to) Get both east and west channels to just about everything. (TNT, TBS, HBO's etc)

Packages. HD is only included in the 450 package. If you want HBO, and HD, and the 200 package, it cost $7 dollars less than getting everything with the 450 package. (don't understand that)

Bad things. You can only record 4 (I could only do 3, and some people can do less) shows at the same time. It depends how far from the box you are. If you don't watch a lot of TV, this shouldn't affect you, but if you have a couple things recording on Sunday, you can't switch to the football game.

I think you'll only be able to have 4 boxes total in the house. Not sure if you can get more, but again, you'll be limited by how many HD channels you get into your house.

The internet was decent. I was getting 45mbps consistently. it didn't matter if I was watching multiple things at the same time. It was always the same.

You can set the default settings for the DVR to record HD channels all the time and to hide the SD channels. I get the same thing with Cox. Haven't figured out how to hide the SD channels yet.

That would be for internet, though, which I'm not switching.

Not my choice... Work pays for my Internet.

It's a separate cable the runs from a splitter outside the house to the modem inside and then to a wireless router. I figured that the Uverse folks could pick up the cable cables without disturbing the Internet cable. Or do I have no idea what I'm talking about?

I switched to Uverse from Cox about a month ago and I've been having this problem. The Uverse tech has been to my house twice and he sent someone else out a third time to check the lines between the junction box and my house, and I'm still having service drop randomly. How widespread of an issue is this with them?

I had an issue with mine when they first installed it. The second tech that came to my house took one look at the box outside, and said I have no idea why techs are putting these things in (grey pieces that the wires connected to) and he ripped them out completely, then rewired it and I never had an issue again.

Also, if you know anything about computers, or can follow documentation (even videos), you can bypass the AT&T router. I had my wireless and tv's going through an Asus router.

Did you see the part where I said Comcast's customer service is absolutely shitastic?

I'm talking about my own experience, pretty sure that's what the OP was looking for.

My guess is not that widespread. The tech that came out to my house the first time seemed like he knew what he was doing and he had no idea what was going on.

Bad equipment might be common. They overnight replacements to you and have you drop off your old stuff at the UPS store. The lady there said she sees a lot of Uverse equipment come through their store.

Didn't read the thread, but I have recent experience with both

I moved and originally scheduled a comcast install because of their better internet speeds

Long story short, their service sucked and actually ha diverse installed

Two days after having uverse, I had comcast come out and decided I would deal with their bad service, TV was shitty and internet was slow

Comcast TV is leaps and bounds above in my area
