I just pre-ordered the 7 pro and the watch. I currently have a 5 which is running strong, I just got the 7 as backup. Does anyone know if the watch will pair with the 5?

Why don’t you just use the better phone as a daily and use the 5 as a backup ??

I just pre-ordered 7 pro. I went cheap last year and got the 6 and not the pro. I can't wait.

1)I truly hate phone migrations - I have it set up so perfect and tight right now - why mess with success? (My 2 lasted for over 3 years and was still going strong...I just was scared I was living on borrowed time, so I switched to the 5 and didn't even want to when I did that)

2)I don't really want to use the 7 - not only doesn't it have rear fingerprint...it doesn't have fingerprint at all! I don't want this face scanning bullshite. Seriously, it is a pretty major loss of utility for me to lose the fingerprint (especially in the back)

Ah, I see it does have at least a front one. Much worse, but better than being forced to use face recognition.

i always lag behind 2 or 3 phone models but i look FORWARD to a new phone without all the crap app i seem to collect over time. its only a few seconds to download something you don't have. i'm not sure how much 'hassle' it is to move to a new phone but certainly its not enough that I wouldn't be thrilled to have a new phone.

whats the problem w/ a front face fingerprint scanner? i have one on my oneplus8 and i have absolutely zero problems. I scanned my thumb so its literally right there on the scanner spot anyway when i take my phone out.

your logic. You bought a brand new phone to stick in a drawer because you don't want to do a 5 minute migration that google really couldnt make easier if they tried.

fwiw, the worst part of the pixel 6 was the under glass fingerprint reader. it sucked. so i guess i at least get being hesitant about that, but he thought it didnt have one at all. and i would hope they would have improved on it from the 6, but i suppose no guarantees there.

This is an absurd claim. Yes, it's way easier to bring your main setup across quickly to the new phone than it was back in the day. But it still takes hours to actually get it set up - e.g. all apps that I have set up for fingerprint login must be completely redone - usernames, passwords, then converting to fingerprint, etc. That's on top of all the micro settings that simply do not come over automatically and are buried (and perhaps missing) from the new phone.

But here's a question: do you know if the 7 still gives one the option to have the 3 buttons at the bottom instead of gestures? Did the 6 have that option?

All I can say is it literally takes hours (like 4-6 hours). Also, I wasn't thrilled to get the 5 - I was sorry to see the 2 go!

Now that I've learned there is at least the front fingerprint, I guess I'll have to manage. However, the rear fingerprint is just on another level of greatness. As I'm pulling it out of my pocket, I'm already unlocking it and in a completely natural position. I can't think of any reason why my thumb would ever be where this scanner is except for seeking out the scanner.

Do you know the answer to if you can still opt for the 3 buttons instead of gestures?

I do too these days. They are just such small incremental upgrades now. There's just really no rush for me to get a new one unless mine stops getting updates. I think my Pixel 5 is supported for another year. The new ones will be 5 years.

I own a Pixel 6. I'm well aware of the migration process. It's quite simple. It doesn't take anything close to hours to migrate.

Couldn't answer about the 7 but yes the 6 has it. Personally don't use it though, much prefer gesture.

This. Why would anyone buy a brand new phone as a "backup"? That's beyond stupid. If you want a backup, buy last year's model at what will be a cheaper cost, and even then it's still dumb. Whats the purpose of the backup? If the 5 breaks, then buy the "backup"
