Are any of these bundles a good deal or is it just a T5i with a bunch of crappy accessories?

Am I better off going a la carte?

FYI, I'm a novice.

a la carte. Everything in that package is crap.I'm not saying that to be mean. I'm serious. You will not be happy with any of the accessories except for the cleaning cloth and maybe the UV filter to keep your lens from scratching.

The Memory cards are like $12 for a good one from Amazon, the UV filters are just a few dollars, that's probably a $25 tripod, those off-brand batteries can be bought for just a few dollars a piece (I had 9 of them).

If you want that lens (which is bottom of the line), then price the lens and the camera together......if the price is much lower, do it that way. If it's the same.....I guess it's worth having the extra stuff.

So if I go with This, what additional lens should I get to start with?

What are you wanting to shoot with it? Do you need zoom? You doing portraits? Sports or action?

The 18-55 kit lens is probably going to be the most versatile for the price......and the one you'll use the most. It just really depends on what you plan on shooting. Kids, family, outdoor, vacations, etc.? Go with the 18-55.

Shooting sporting events, basketball games, wildlife, etc.? Get the 75-300. If you're looking at doing this professionally and not as a hobby, I would recommend totally different lenses.

Probably mostly landscape and wildlife, some action. I'd like to have a lens for zoom. I was messing around with my parents' setup and I think they have a 50-275(?). Was thinking in that range, maybe a little more zoom.

Definitely not professionally. Just a hobby on the weekends.

You can pick up a cheap 75-300 for around $300. That would probably suit you. Buy a 50mm 1.8 for around $150 for portraits and some landscape. The 40mm pancake is a sweet little compact lens and it's cheap too. Look at used lenses on some photography forums and you can pick up a good deal on 17-40L wide angle. The 24-105L is a cheaper piece of L glass that can be found used for a good price.

Before buying anything, always check the canon refurbished store. Prices can be really cheap and it comes with the same warranty.

I was able to find my 17-40L on eBay used for $400. Great condition. Pretty good lens......but I wish I would have waited and gotten the 16-35 f4. So much shaper around the edges.

I'm about to dump everything but my 40 pancake and buy a 24-70. I don't need to reach out anymore and I don't shoot as much landscape as I used to. Portraiture and a little scenery is about all I do anymore.

Any particular 75-300 lenses you recommend? The bundle mentioned in the OP had a 75-300, or is that a shitty lens?

I don't even own a long zoom lens any more. I only shoot interiors and architecture. Pretty much everything is around 24mm for me. I own the nifty fifty, but it never comes out of the bag.

75-300 Refurbished

It'll do for hobby work. There's nothing "wrong" with it. There are just better, more expensive lenses available.

For what most people shoot, kit lenses are just fine.

With Canon the 18-55mm lens will be useful but not great but get the nifty 50 lens for next to nothing and it helps greatly for cheap.

So what does it do as compared to the 18-55?

Its a very good (not professional level though) fixed lens f/1.8 for super cheap.

You will want to learn about aperture and f stops when getting one of these cameras.
