Can a .OST file be converted to a .PST file? Will any emails be in that .OST file? I accidentally deleted an archived .PST file and I have an .OST file. The .OST file is 10GB and I'm wondering if any of the emails will be in this file?

We have used the paid version of this program for what you're trying to do. Their other software works pretty well too.

Thanks. Do you know if there are actual emails in that OST file?

I thought the ost file was just the server emails that are stored on your pc for offline viewing...if you moved them from your inbox to a pst then I doubt they're in there.

Yep. The ost file contains emails and should look like your mailbox looked the last time it connected to Exchange. STB is correct, if you archived emails to a pst, the emails are physically removed from Exchange and its corresponding ost file. Unless you have an older ost that you're trying to look at from before you archived it, which doesn't sound like the case.

I believe there is a free demo trial of that software where you can see what's in the ost, just not able to export it to pst.

Unfortunately, it's on an old computer that the hardware got whipped and sent to another employee.

This makes total sense. I think it is an older .OST file. I have someone that can convert. I'm going to see what the hell is in there. Thanks for the help.

Let us know how it turns out.

We're seeing more of our clients move to an email archiving solution that archives every email sent to and received from their email, even when compliance is not necessary. You never know when you might need to refer back to something, and there are so many variables that can go wrong to cause email data loss. We use global relay as a cloud based solution and barracuda for an appliance based solution. Neither are cheap.

Sounds like you might have this under control already. Just in case, I'll add this here...

Transend

We used to have a seat of this on a workstation a few years ago and it came in handy to convert nsf (lotus notes) or mbox files to psts. Worked pretty flawlessly back then. Might be worth checking out if you still need help.
