did you have any issues pairing the schlage lock. I have mine but can not get it to work i see it in the app but it will not control any of the functions. Wink support was no help. Had me unpair and re add the lock about 25 times.

If you see it in the app, it sounds like it is paired. If it won't control any functions, you may have a bad lock.

Try the schlage support number, they were very helpful when I had an issue.

Bumping this thread since it hasn’t been updated much since the Wink snafu, but there’s some helpful info in here, so thanks to all who have contributed….

Out of necessity I am looking for a home automation hub. I’d like to have a smartlock, thermostat and camera put in my condo in FL to reduce the need for a management company. I can pay about $1000 to an alarms.com installer to get what I need, but then there’s a monthly fee which makes it no-go. It looks like Wink and Smartthings are the top players if you don’t want to pay that service fee & I’ve read about as many positive reviews as negatives on both. It seems the technology in general isn’t fully baked yet. Do you any of you have any advice on which way to go (if any)? I am all Apple if that makes a difference.

TIA

Wink.

For starters you can try it for free because you only need the app for the thermostat.

I can't imagine a better lock on the market right now than that schlage. It's freaking loaded with features you will love to manage your condo.

And no monthly fees

Thanks. I'm definitely buying the Schlage. Do you have any thoughts on camera's? I like the Dropcam, but those damn monthly fee's!

Foscam. Cheap and mostly trouble free if close to router or hardwired

I put together a massive thread on here for Foscam awhile back to help people from stabbing their eyes out setting it up initially.

This may be a horribly dumb question, but I'm just feeling my way around the home automation and camera stuff. Is it possible to record to a hard drive connected to your router?

Yes. Lots of ways to do that and you can even have it record only if it detects motion etc

Oh and this just showed up on slickdeals

Yes, but I don't think you'd like doing it that way.

The hard-drive-connected-to-router will be a NAS like the WD My Cloud. Most IP cameras should be able to save recordings to this, I think. Your problem will be file management and playback. It's basically impossible to just casually browse through a collection of video files without some software to help you out. You will be better off with a dedicated DVR or a computer running appropriate software for the job.

Makes sense. Guess I'll get there down the road. There are a few other things that I'd like that take priority over that . Glad you guys know your stuff. Hoping to learn a lot here.

If costs isn't a big issue, you may want to check out the Synology Diskstation NAS. It has a built in camera app and you can easily access the files remotely.

So is WINK working? I thought this thread warned WINK was having all kinds of issues a couple weeks ago.

I was about to buy until I read bad stuff in the thread

Wink app and hub get updates every week or so.

So does WINK work?

I have a couple of ac's, a door lock, house alarm. Might hook some lighting up, and maybe some sprinkler system controls (if available)...maybe camera or 2.

Does WINK work for that? What was up with all the negative stuff about WINK a few weeks back?

They had a brief outage a few weeks ago, but that has been corrected. If you already have all of those in place, then download the app and you can see which of your products will work and which won't. You can download the app before purchasing the hub. Some devices work without the hub, and some require the hub.

I'm a little disappointed in some of the incompatibilities. For instance, the wink app can link to my MyQ account to control the garage door, but doesn't allow control of the MyQ light switches. The only camera that is currently supported is the dropcam.

why??? wtf are you going to use wink for with a webcam?

see my other post in the other thread.

there's no real logical reason you need to control your webcam from wink.
