New is debatable.

Its iPad Air 2 with a semi better screen and A9. It's the price that's real nice.

Hell of a price point. But will it crap out in a year or two with the continued IOS updates? Or is the A9X the latest n greatest?

I'm kinda glad to hear this. My iPad is 5+ years old and has been slowing down significantly with every update. $329 is manageable.

I'll wait til ipad pro gets knocked down. I've got an Air 2. Not much difference with this new one.

New is a relative term for Apple. Let me guess, you can send .png or .gif "stickers" that only this model can do do!

As a long term apple user, Apple has fricking tanked since Job's passed and their closed ecosystem for their mobile products is a stark contrast to their mac side which was founded on "do whatever you want" mentality in the early days.

Apple has done a pretty good job of extending iOS updates to older models. iOS 11 reportedly will be 64 bit only, but that goes back to the A7 chip (iPhone 5s/iPad Air) which is 4 years old.

Was originally excited when I saw this released. Now, not so much.

Not compatible with the Smart Keyboard or Pencil.

Looks like I'll be looking for a 9.7 Pro Refurb for under $500.

Enough with the "price point". Hate that word. Way overused.

That's a really nice price. Wife's iPad is like 4 years old and probably need to be replaced.

My iPad is 4 years old, (ME991LL/A*) with an A7 chip. It's a mid tier device (32GB, Wifi/Celluar) but it suits my needs. I am surprised at how well it has held up and continues to run the latest iOS updates without issue. I can see that the battery life is starting to shorten, but that doesn't seem to be too big of a deal (3-4 hours flights are no big deal and I typically have a charger). I'd love a reason to upgrade, but no need to at this time.

When I do upgrade, it will be to a 9.7" Pro with Wifi/Cellular 128GB, esp if I can keep it for 4+ years

Update: After a careful look at Apple's iPad comparison page, we've found the new iPad's Achilles' heel. Its screen isn't laminated to the glass and doesn't have the anti-reflective treatment found on the screen of every other iPad. The iPad Air 2, by comparison, had a fully-laminated screen, which removes a visible gap between the display and the glass cover. If you've used a device with a laminated screen (which includes most phones out there now), the notion of going backwards there isn't promising.

Yep lack of laminated display is the one drawback from upgrading from an iPad 2. Sold my 2 last year when I couldn't deal with the lag so been tablet-less the past few months. Don't really miss it but I haven't had a taste of 2012-present tablet tech either.

Might snag a Pro if I can find a good deal. Really just want something to browse web and watch videos.
