Need some serious computer help. Undeleting something important

Accidentally placed Quick Books with buisiness info in the trash can on a Mac. When we pulled it back out of the trash, the app was there but completely empty of all the prior data. Does anyone know how to find the old data, or are we completely fricked? Please help

I'm guessing you don't back up your data.

I am sure the data was actually saved as a seperate file...if you can find out the name or even the format of that file, you may be able to do some searching to find it...
also, I am not familiar with how icloud works, but is there a possibility that it could be stored there and recovered?....
ETA: I do agree that this would probably get some better answers on the tech board...
