Yes it's 2014 and I still do not have DVR, the horror. I'm looking for one that does not need a subscription. Whatcha got?

Windows Media Center. It's the only choice for CableCard, and it's still the best choice for OTA.

Digital cable? Satellite? OTA?
There are some decent standalone units, but knowing what you want, expect, and are willing to spend would be invaluable.
