HP Pavilion 15-p214dx
My mom bought this computer a while back, and it's slow as shite. So I've been able to talk her into swapping out hard drives, and since I'll have it opened I decided I'd add more RAM while i'm at it.
I'm wondering how much RAM this model can support, how much you might recommend, and what specific RAM?
Also, I was wondering if anyone can find out if this HP Pavilion model has a second hard drive bay, so that I could leave the original one in? If not will this adapter enclosure hold the old HD?
Finally, i wanted to make sure that this Samsung 850 EVO - 2.5" SATA III is compatible with the computer.
TIA.

perfect thanks. so if i'm reading the manual correctly the max memory it can hold is 8gb X 2 for a total of 16gb?

Yes, 2 x 8gb max. That SSD will be compatible. Honestly, the SSD will make a world of difference, but the RAM won't hurt if no one has yet to take the time to clean up launch programs/initial bloat. It's pretty crazy how much RAM some of those machines use out of the box because of all the vendor/manufacturer bullshite. My dad got a Toshiba 2-in-1 with 4GB of RAM, and it was using 3.5GB out of the box before I disabled/deleted shite.

Perfect, thanks!
I will definitely be running some programs to delete a bunch of bloatware before i transfer over the HD, because I know there is a ton of crap on there.
also, I'm wondering if anyone knows if there is just a 6gb stick in there right now, or 2 x 3gb sticks? if there's just the 1 x 6gb stick, i'm assuming i can just purchase another 6gb and plug it in? and i believe i read somewhere that mixing brands doesn't matter, but mirroring the same size memory is recommended (2 x 4gb, 2 x 6gb, etc.)?

Neither. It's gonna be a 4GB and a 2GB stick. If you want 16, you'll be replacing both sticks. If you want 12GB, toss the 2GB and add an 8GB. Mirroring sizes is not a big deal in this case. Capacity is more important.
