Need help finding a laptop for work

I need some help in finding a laptop to fit a friends needs. He will be using it for business and personal. His everyday needs will be the Word/Excel/Email but may need it in the future for AutoCAD for minimal use. He is looking to stay between $300 and $500 but wants something that will hold him over for a little while and will not be ancient after a year. Below are a few options I found on a quick search. He is looking for the best bang for the buck. He will need the ability to run dual monitors. If anyone out there knows of a good deal it would help. I would like to get him an SSD card to replace the original hard drive but that may be out of his budget.

I'd go with the ThinkPad. I have a T500 and love it. I use it for the same purposes you described in the OP. I utilize Perl and Ruby applications with ease as well as SQL.

We use Thinkpads almost exclusively at work, be it field techs or admins and call center workers. Highly recommend.
