re: My son bought a new graphics card for his alienware..now his computer won't boot

After POST a message similiar to this came up. Not sure if that was the exact error though.
Tried repairing, but it said I didn't have access to the necessary partition.
Tried formatting/reinstalling, but the hard drive was not showing up in the Windows 10 installation menu.
I also plugged it into my laptop with a SATA to USB adapter. No luck.
Anything other than just a defective SSD that I should be worrying about?
Also...while I am at it...before the SSD replacement, and even after I fixed the no video signal issue, when I would boot up into Windows my monitor would have problems finding a signal and would have to be turned off and turned back on. Know of any reason why this happens?

Not necessarily. I was just curious whether the SSD simply died or started throwing errors beforehand. In theory, premature failure in SSDs would show no warning signs. It would simply be alive one moment and dead the next. Sounds like that's what happened. What brand/model was it?

Is it connected via HDMI? I have the same problem, but only with my second monitor, which is connected to an HDMI port on my video card using a DVI/HDMI adapter (primary monitor is connected to DVI and has no issues). Every time I boot (which isn't often), I have to turn off my second monitor and turn it back on for it to be detected.
It's obviously a Windows 10 issue, just haven't really looked into why it's happening and what specific condition is required to reproduce it (i.e., is it only for HDMI-connected monitors, is it because of the adapter, only for secondary monitors, only for SLI setups, only for Nvidia cards, etc.)

I hadn't been on my computer for a day or two and came back and it was off...didn't noticed anything before that.

Yep it was only after I installed Windows 10.

I can eliminate two of those

Interesting.
I bought a Samsung 250GB SSD to get the machine up and running again while I wait for the replacement from Mushkin. Sounds like I won't be using that replacement for anything I can't stand to lose.

holy crap the Aurora only $1100 3 years ago and it came with an i7. Eta and yep it was a dell outlet refurb special with a huge 35% off coupon on top

Bad comparison, though. Just because the CPU dominates the bill of materials doesn't mean it should. It would be extremely easy for me to shift around $100 in that part list to get the much-beloved hyperthreading feature, but the 6600K would still be better for his applications/games than the 2600, and ultimately the 2600 is still fine performance-wise anyway. That's one of my biggest gripes about prebuilt "gaming" PCs. Alienware knows that gaming performance scales more with a GPU, but consumers are more enamored with CPU. Separate the market...put an i7 in the <$1000 build, but pair it with a minecraft GPU. That way the cheaper PCs always look attractive, and the $2,000 cash cows always perform noticeably better.

My bet is a stick of RAM was damaged during the install. Pull out all the RAM, and try to boot with one stick. If it works keep adding sticks until it doesn't.

Well he did say it was an 875W PSU. It probably isn't very good quality, but it does supply 825w on 12v. And the new card probably consumes the same amount of power as the old one, if not less. Total system power consumption likely doesn't exceed 350-ish watts anyway.
CAD, another thought I had when googling info about the power supply: It appears to be one of those wacky multi-rail PSUs with like five 12v rails, 18 amps each. If there are additional PCIe power cables in the machine, I'd try those (and various combinations), to confirm it's not a simple case of overloading a rail.
