My wife's 5x died after update two weeks ago and Google replaced it within two days at no charge, it was out of warranty so I would at least ask if anyone else is facing this.

I went into the super long reddit thread regarding it and saw multiple people claiming LG gave them the "water damage" excuse.

At this point it's not worth my energy to fight it. I'll just replace her phone with a used one off of swappa and never purchase an LG product again.

Mine too. I was going to get a new phone with my recent switch to Verizon, but I just could not come up with a reason to. The only thing I am not super pleased with on this phone is the camera. I guess I was spoiled by the Lumia camera.

I plan to see what the new Nokias are like, then decide after that.

I did not contact LG, this was all handled in less than two min in a chat session with FI, not much energy required.

Just trying to limp along until October and the Pixel 2 debuts (hopefully)

Sucks, apparently Google is holding LG's feet to the fire and is making them replace all bricked 5X's no questions asked for FI users.

Not at all. But I have a pretty adamant stance that i stop using something if a company doesn't stand behind their product. It's not an attempt to hurt their bottom line but more of a live and learn and don't make that same mistake again for myself.
