My parents are looking for a new laptop and have been encouraged to get an Apple. I know that's a polarizing subject, but that ship has sailed. My mom will be the primary user - has an iphone and an iPad.

What model should she be looking at. Primarily email and word processing, she has a small business that she runs and helps with church bookkeeping, nothing super high tech.

What macbook best suits this need? The air? Money isn't really the primary concern, if a MacBook pro can be had for a couple hundred bucks and is vastly superior to the Air, we'll go that route. What about the "MacBook"?

Thanks all.

I'd go with a 13 inch air, or 13 in mb pro. Skip the 12 inch MacBook.

For the pro, look at either the non touchbar current generation version, or a previous generation (from 2015). There's not a ton of difference between the 2, but you may be able to get a killer deal on a '15.

This looks like a decent deal, right?

BEST BUY

From what I can tell, this is last year's model, right?

It looks like the Macbook, Air and Pro all come with 8 GB RAM which is good. Unless your parents know how to manage photos and videos in the cloud I'd recommend a 256 GB SSD as a minimum.

Been wondering and researching the same myself. Need something new for grad school. Seems there are good deals on the 13" pro with 16gb RAM, 2015 versions. Some for less than 1k.

Just can't see paying twice as much for the latest and greatest version.

I'm not sure. I know at some point in the last year or 2 Apple dropped the 11 inch air and dropped the 13 inch with 4mb of ram. Not sure if there were other spec bumps, but even if so, it wouldn't matter much. The MacBook Air already has ridiculous battery life, and a newer processor is just slightly more efficient and powerful; doesn't really impact every day computing.
