Okay Mac folks,

I have a new Macbook (less than one year old) and it's already packed with stuff on the hard drive- so much so that I cannot publish a movie that I created in iMovie from our recent vacation. No matter if I choose Theater, Youtube or Facebook, it goes into "writing" mode for about 20 minutes then gives me a message that the upload failed due to low disk space.

Here is a screenshot of my Mac's current disk space:

My question is how the hell can I have 84.47 GB of photos on this thing? I've searched for all my old photos and already deleted everything that I had in iPhotos yet this giant chunk of photos still remains somewhere. Does anyone know how I can locate these mystery photos?

Do you use Dropbox or some other photo backup service?

I use this program to visualize the huge files on my hard drive that might be difficult to find.

iPhoto makes a hidden backup of every photo. You need to go to iPhoto and delete those.

Thanks for the link, I just used it on my computer. Funny thing is, it doesn't show jpg as a separate thing, so he won't be able to isolate pictures.

Ah, I see. My photos in that program are just a 2gb block of my Photos library (I don't take a lot of pictures). What about emptying the iPhoto trash can? I've forgotten to do that a few times.

I use disk inventory to clean up my hard drive all the time. Great app.

If I go to iPhoto, and highlight the photo tabs and delete them, they end up repopulating within a few minutes. How do I get rid of these "copies"?

First have you gone to the trash bin and hit empty trash?

Got it taken care of. I was emptying the trash in the tray at the bottom and not from the trash can in iPhoto itself. Solved my problem. Thanks. Disk Inventory X showed me that the majority of my disk space was still being taken up by iPhoto so I figured it out.

Appreciate the help. This board is like having an IT team. LOL.
