Laptop $300 range

Looking for a cheap laptop for my wife as she goes back to school for her doctorate. She is in education for word, PowerPoint, excel are most likely the extent of the essientals. She does have office 365 from work. I know chrome books are good but she is worried about some compatibly and formatting issues with any non chromebook collaborations.
Is chromebook still best bet? I know there are some windows os computers in similar price range now.
I just want most bang for buck and pretty good battery. Thanks

go to slickdealz, hot deals forum and filter to all laptops. find the one in our price range.

No such thing as a good Windows laptop for $300. They will all be crap.
Chromebook is the way to go. Models running the Play Store can install the mobile o365 app. Models running the Chrome Store will have to use office online.

Dig deep...I picked up an HP Win 7 Pro Intel i3 for 275.00
I think it was Office Depot. NOS, it's older, works great, not Win 10. A great back-up.
