I've been on the fence about buying one for myself and my SO.

I've seen it in action and I want it, but I don't want to buy this iteration just to have a newer, more feature-rich version come out in a few months...

Does anyone have any information about the updates the next generation will have and ballpark when it is supposed to be released?

TIA

All the rumors I've seen point to the fall, but what changes you'll see vary greatly. Everything from an incremental "S" style upgrade of the CPU and maybe a thinner form factor to the watches getting extra functionality like having cellular connectivity and a camera for face timing.

I sold mine. Too slow, have to charge it every night, horrible sync issues with the phone, apps are pretty much useless. I'd hold off until the next gen.

I'm waiting for the next gen. Really want it to be thinner.

I'm waiting for the next gen. I really wanted one when they came out but got the fitbit Surge instead. I will say that the surge sucks on a lot of fronts. But its pretty much waterproof, built in GPS tracking, and the battery lasts for about 4-5 days.

I was blown away that you could actually make a call from the watch (with your phone in proximity) through a small microphone and speaker.

Also the "camera integration" that can double as a spy camera

You go to bed you place it on the charger. In the morning you put it on all charged up. How this is an issue I'll never understand.

Mine syncs fine.

As for apps pretty much useless --well most are. But that's not what I use mine for anyway-- it's all about texts texts texts and alerts for me.

IMO 2 days is the minimum life for a smart watch based on my patterns having owned one for nearly 2 years.

sometimes the watch doesn't hit the magnetic connectors perfectly and since its plugged into the usb on my laptop, sometimes the laptop gets powered off or its sleeping and not powering the USB.

i'll find that out pretty quickly the next morning, but there's more than enough life to make it another day and make sure the second night its plugged in successfully.

i can count on one hand the # of times i've messed up 2 days in a row and ended up with a brick on my hand.

Wait. I really think they should strip the apps from the watch. Just have smart notifications, complications, and maybe glances. All of the apps are garbage and slow.

diagree.

its the 'form factor' of the watch apps you probably have a problem with. nobody wants an NES emulator on their watch.

for instance, on my android watch, there is a WINK app that just allows me access to my shortcuts so i can turn all the floodlights on from my watch or speak to my watch to turn lights, thermostat up/down etc.

so maybe i'm splitting hairs with your definition of 'apps' but there are some very useful features of this watch outside of just notifications.

another example is i can pull up my foscam webcam and see it onscreen..tiny, sure..but i can pinch to zoom and its useful to see if the baby is moving around.

My wife barely ever uses hers anymore. Sync issues. It is stupid overall. I also had a different watch paired with my Android. I got tired of it as well and gave up on it. Back to a dumb watch that doesn't need to be charged.

Idk. I just got one and it's pretty fuxkin useless. Although I actually prefer it as a watch over my Rolex.

I like the idea of a connected watch, but I just didn't see what the iWatch would really do for me.

I have a Fenix 3, which syncs via bluetooth so that I get texts and emails and calls (or notifications of them). I love that, but I honestly don't know what else I'd really want a watch to do?

Maybe if I could use it for Google Now/Siri, but otherwise I never really got the watch thing. If I didn't have the Garmin, I'd probably buy a Fitbit or something with the same notification features over a true smartwatch.

Definitely allow for Siri commands, but the apps i've played with are slow and frustrating.

I want one mainly for music when I run. I'm tired of carrying around my phone or ipod for runs and I know you can load the watch up with playlists.

While it's mostly the music and fitness reasons why I want it, I'm also intrigued by notifications, texts, emails, calendar features. At this point I'm just going to wait for the iWatch 2 though.

you think its more convenient to turn your lights on because your phone is glued to you or by talking to or interacting with a watch on your wrist?

i don't know about you, but when i get home i throw my phone on the charger in the den and rarely pick it up again unless i get a notification on my watch that needs a response.
